Help in configuring mac mini, Beoport and Beolab 3500

    Hi

Finally I bought a Beoport. I just finished doing the wiring, connecting a Masterlink cable from the Beoport to the Beolab 3500 in the kitchen. But I'm not able to get any sound :-( Plz help!!

I connected the Mac Mini to the Beoport (USB and Sound out from Mini to Sound In on Beoport). I have no other B&O equipment connected. The Mac Mini/Beoport and the Beolab 3500 is in two different rooms. I set the Beoport to Option 2 to act as a audio master and the Beolab 3500 to option 6.

My Beo4 remote is quite old (if that's relevant).

I am new at this so please bare with me, if I overlooked some extreme obvious :-)

    Best regards

Have you set your Mac minis Audio out to "analog out" ?

    Hi Stefan

Hmm, not sure, I guess so (at least it's not set to digital out, which I used before connecting the Beoport). I can't find that option in Sytemprefs->Sound. It looks like this: (in Danish, SL 10.6.4):

"Hovedtelefoner" = Headphones, "lyd ud" = sound out

Det er rigtigt. But why is there no "digital out"? Is it an older mac mini?

Maybe you can connect a hovedtelefon to this output and check if you get sound?

Your connections and option settings seem to be all correct...(?)

The Mini is from 2008. Up until now I used it together with Plex as a mediacenter - connecting the sound out to my non-B&O receiver getting perfect digtal sourround sound (DTS, Dolby etc.), so the digital out works :-)

I could of course check the wiring again, but I don't think that's the problem. Could I misconfigure Linkplayer?

When I press for instance, Radio on my Beo4, the Beolab 3500 briefly turns on showing Radio in the display and then turns off again...

When you say you get perfect digtal sourround sound (DTS, Dolby etc.), so the digital out works..the output must be set to "digital"...(?)

Did you assign a mac source to the button RADIO? Soryy, I don`t have Beoport and Linkplayer (not yet!), so I can`t help there  too much.

Did you connect an IR eye to Beoport. If yes, what happens, when you press RADIO in that room?

If I remember correctly, there is a button in Linkplayer, that allows the mac to distribute N.MUSIC/N.RADIO via Masterlink...(?)

    Hi Stefan

As soon as I disconnected my optical cable from the mini mac and connected the soundcable that came with the Beoport, the Digital Out option disappeared..

Radio is assigned to iTunes Radio, CD is assigned to iTunes etc.. I haven't connected and IR to the Beoport.

There is a setting to enable n.music etc. (see screendump):

Neither the Beo4 nor the Beolab 3500 is upgraded to N.Music, but is that necessary??

    Thanks for helping!

    Heeyyy!

Now I get very weak sound from the Beolab - guess it could have something to do with the wiring - I better check again.

    mmmmmhhhh.......??.......?!?....

It`s not necessary to update your Beo4. You can choose A.TAPE2 command for N.MUSIC and PHONO for N.RADIO.

But I remember that my BL3500 had to be updated when I got my BS9000 and BM1 - I can`t remember why.....

I would try to configure N.MUSIC and N.RADIO for mac sorces in Linkplayer and try to activate them by A.TAPE2 and PHONO.

What happens?, what does BL3500 display? BTW can you check whether there is sound on your minis output if you connect headphones?

Re: Help in configuring mac mini, Beoport and Beolab 3500

That's allright - could easily be something simple :-), but yes the sound is set to absolute max on the mac mini. Tried to connect headphones and there was no problem.

I also checked the wiring and to me it seems okay. I used to junctions boxes.

It's also a bit strange, that the Beolab seems to be a delay in reacting to the infrared commands from the Beo4.

    I'll try the other sources.

@Phil: thanks Phil - I post the questions that way around also.

    Best regards

It is a problem with LinkPlayer in option 2 that I knew happened with the Beolab 2000. I think the issue with the Beolab 3500 is the same.

There will be a fix at some point.

The new 1.1 version should fix this problem.

    Have I missed something?

    Didn't the beoport module need a beosound 4, 3000, 3200, 9000 or BC2 to function properly?

Re: Help in configuring mac mini, Beoport and Beolab 3500

When used on a PC with Beoplayer, or a Mac with LinkPlayer, you can use the Beoport as an AudioMaster.

In addition, with LinkPlayer you can use the Beoport with incompatible music systems, BC900, BC2500...) in certain setups.

Nope - works fine for me with just the Beolab 3500 connected and the Beoport set to option 2. :-)
