  • Re: Penta Pop

Hi Keith & other Penta people, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that I have finally fixed all issues with the Pentas. New PCB22 arrived today and I fitted it - display now works and the "Penta pop" is gone! Now just waiting on a handfull of capacitors to re-cap the crossover network boards and they should be like new! I fitted

Keith, The problem with the display is that it does not light up at all - nothing. When I swapped the PCB22 with the other one the display issue followed the board, so I guess it is the board which is faulty. I have ordered a new one which will hopefully 1) turn up in a week or so, and 2) fix the problem with the display. If your suggestion about the

  • Re: Penta Pop

Thanks Keith for your (yet another) comprehensive answer! Situation 2 sounds similar to what's happening with my system - except I am using a Beocenter 9500. It is interesting that PCB22 in the popping penta also has a fault which has caused the display to stop working.. I have swapped over that PCB between the 2 pentas and whichever it is installed

  • Penta Pop

All, I have seen mention on the forum of a 'fix' for the power-down 'pop' or thump. Can someone tell me what that fix involves? I can't actually seem to find the thread where it is explained... I'm certain these particular set of Penta 3's are possessed - I'm sure it wasn't doing it before I managed to repair the

  • Re: Penta III display probs

Thanks for your answer, but I am confused - according to my diagram and component lists, there is no 470uF cap on PCB 22... The display boards themselves work fine with the 'good' amp unit connected. I swapped PCB 22 in the amps and it certainly seems to be an issue with that board. It is the one with all surface-mount components and sits in

  • Penta III display probs

Hi, more Penta issues to share beyond my Beolab amp probelm which turned uot to be a diode... http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/105509.aspx Now one display has stopped working and I have isolated it to PCB22, the one which sits sandwiched with the main amp board PCB1 and has the smaller board with the line in sockets attached to it. Has anyone

  • Re: More Penta III issues

Keith and others, After replacing a number of capacitors and having no joy I measured some voltages again around the PCB1. I noticed that the voltage was low around TR3, so I desoldered it and to my amazement the amp came good! Looking a little further, I decided it had to be D6 'leaking' to ground. Luckily this is a common N4148 so I scavanged

Thanks Keith, Your descrition of the switching IC is useful. I have sourced one of these ICs for 90 cents and along with more capacitors I will persevere with replacing components. It's a bit unscientific, but hopefully I'll hit the problem by elimination. I took voltage readings as per the scematic and all was correct, so remains a mystery

  • Beolab Penta 3 dead

Hi all, I have posted questions related to this issue in the General Forum, but I guess this is the more appropriate forum for things B&O which have died... I have now spend hours working on this Penta III amp unit and have had no luck. I began with the powerlink cables, and the BC9500 and can confidently say that the fault is in the Penta amp.

  • Re: More Penta III issues

Thanks Keith, the question I have is should the mode switch, when set to Left, only process the left signal - because what appears to be happening is that regardless of whether the switch is set to left or right, the same sound signal is coming through the speaker. I disconnected the left signal wire inside the plug, and still the switch does not change
