Interesting project but; shouldn't this thread be more in place in the "workbench" section? (*** edited by mika: yes, I agree and thus I moved it.)
-
Personally I think MP3's even at 320 kb do sound thin, compared to FM radio on my Beosound 3, so that will be the same for the beosound 8. Anything other than lossless is responsable for a worse-than-can-be sound on your dock.
-
Regarding the succesful sales B&o will see themselves confirmed this is the right way to go. As a comercial business, making money is a primary objective for B&o. Playing an iPod on the Beosound 8, soundwise you're dependend upon the quality of DAC in the iPod, or am I wrong? (apart from the codec ofcourse)

Ofcourse any judgement on a speaker should be down to your own ears, like I did as I listened extensively to the beolab 3's before starting this thread. Every pair of speakers sound different, even from the same manufacturer. Different sounding speakers can all be enjoyable in their own way, I mean there isn't a "perfect sound", just

So if we want to haven a "complete" speaker, we will have to save for the Beolab 5...

The crossover characteristics of the Beolab 3's as discussed above did remind me of a earlier thread about the presumed lack of midrange of the Beolab 9's. Does anyone know if the 9's are designed with comparable crossover frequencies?
-
As I already replied earlier in this thead, they sound very different to me when played with Beovoxes (and so using the amps). Looking at the specifications at this site or at B&o's site there is a remarkable difference in frequency, so perhaps that's the difference I heard. So I doubt we are speaking of the same amplifiers here. Besides

To return to the actual question asked above by the topicstarter; I don't know, but some posters on this site wrote that the Beosound 4 seems to be better sounding as a CD-player then the older-design Beosounds. Which would be an interesting observation, as the Beosound 4 is the most affordable in the productrange today..

@Mr Moulton: Thank you for your reaction, as it's very interesting to hear these technical background details from the person who knows the engeneering proces that produced the ALT speakers inside-out. Can I therefore conclude that the crossover issue will be solved with the addision of a Beolab 11? @ Trip: With the Beolab 5, perhaps the "audiophile"

Trip: B&O has long had a reputation for all show and no go when it came to speakers What about the seventies speakers? They gained a very good reputation, something I can understand as I own also a pair of Beovox S45-2, connected to a Beomaster 7000. Regarding the placement of my 3's; they are standing on top of their stands in a large (90m2
