  • Re: Beosound 8: Let´s talk about AIRPLAY!

Beta users of iOS 4.2 have reported the ability to stream to AE units from iPhones and iPads. So, unless that gets dropped last minute (AirPrint has reportedly been severely crippled at the last minute - http://www.9to5mac.com/34837/34837 ), you should be good to go. Jeff

  • Re: BeoSound 5 Bang&Olufsen's big mistake?

I honestly think that the product is a step in the direction of where the world is moving, but is not the step I would have taken. While not a fan of the interface type, I can see why there would be desire to go this route (buttons and wheels vs touchscreen). What shocks me are some of the design decisions that make the system far more limited in use

  • Bad Salesmanship - Not doing BS5 any favors

So, I've posted here before regarding my reservations about the BS5. It's not that I think it's a bad piece of hardware, it just isn't my preferred choice, especially in comparison to other systems out there. For some folks, it will suit them just fine. That being said, I still find myself drawn to the design. The sleek lines are certainly

  • Re: Missing basic elements that narrow the window of BS5's appeal

moxxey: soundproof: If you do choose to mechanise the digital, then make it a win-win proposition with the best of both worlds: optimum multiformat resolution and quality playback, combined with ease of use and operation that is non pareil. But also relies on you owning the CD to provide the digital audio (or a non-DRM digital track). This could be

  • Re: Beocontrol 5

tournedos: Puncher: I'm not even sure we yet have the answer for where the clever MOTS software resides - does it run in the BS5 or the BM5? I think it is pretty obvious that the BS5 contains nothing more than a display panel (DVI) and a HID class USB device (the controls), probably emulating either a keyboard or a pointing device. It probably has

10%, It's great that you like the BS5/BM5. However, anyone perusing this thread looking for potential alternatives might come away with incorrect assumptions after reading your post. In the interests of giving more details on pricing and features for each of those, I wanted to expand on your statements. Also, I have some thoughts about the other

Alex: rgbyhkr: Alex: There are plenty of other systems, Sonos being one example. I wouldn't say they're similar to the BeoSound 5 though. The BeoSound 5 isn't a media server/center, it's a hifi. Just wondering how you differentiate the 2 categories? It looks like a media server to me. Jeff If B&O had wanted it to be a media server

  • Re: Alternative

If you're keen on using a TV display for the interface, there are a variety of options: Escient - http://www.escient.com/products/index.html They offer digital music servers and associated client boxes for multi-room audio solutions that can be controlled via an on-screen interface (can alternatively be controlled via a web UI, touchscreen, etc

  • Re: Missing basic elements that narrow the window of BS5's appeal

Thanks to all for the comments. I tried to be fair about this, even going so far as to ponder whether there was a valid #5 to round out the list and then deciding that there wasn't another one that jumped out at me like the others did. I do have other critiques about the design, but to me these are the critical ones that go to the core of the unit's
