    Having had a good long look I thought as much. I did wonder whether the two halves slid off each other with a clip mechanism under the small switch cover but my suspicions are confirmed. The dog has won! Thanks for your reply David

    My sister in law has a 1401 which the dog has chewed!! the cord has been severed very close to the handset. The cost of repair is likely to be nearly as much as a new phone so I'm trying to do a DIY job. Any one have any experience of taking the handset apart? I have got the slides that protects the small switches on the back off and I'm sure
