  • Re: MX6000 Dead!

Very common problem sir. There is a capacitor in the lopt stage that becomes dry jointed and arcs. This can eventually cause the lopt transistor to fail too, hence the dead set,as the psu shuts down. Mail me for more info,if you are confident to repair, don't go there otherwise!!! Nick

I reckon I've got a salvage panel with that chip on Jason.I'll look over the weekend as it's buried in the vaults!! Regards, Nick

  • Re: Connecting an old Beogram5500 to modern speakers

It seems that you are connecting your active speakers via the headphone socket of the Beomaster? This works obviously, although unorthodox. This means that the Beomaster is amplifying the signal from the Beogram, and you can control the volume. If you connect the Beogram directly to the speakers, you will lose control of volume and remote control of the Beogram

  • Re: Beovision datalink compatibility with Beosystem 5000

As mentioned earlier, the BM5000 was only designed to interface with a Beocord VHS91 vcr. This machine had a 5 pin din socket allowing the BM to use the vcr as an audio recorder(as tape2)and control it from the MCP.You could also of course play tv or tape sound sound from the vcr. The data comms in the BM5000 and later generation products such as Avant

  • Re: Beocenter 3500 restoration

Yes indeed,it would have to be two transformers I think.Don't think there would need to be any difference between 3/4000 in practice,as long as the rating was suitable for the 4000? The second supply is not crucial, you could probably stabilise it too,and be better than the original? I remember now of course that the turntable motor is a different

  • Re: Beocenter 3500 restoration

Nice unit, and well worth repair indeed.I think your replacement bridge recccy is too small, and may not last long!!The original type,or very similar are still available though. The humming transformer was indeed an "achilles heel" with this and other similar designs. The idea seemed to be to encase the C core type transformer in resin, inside

  • Re: Beovision MX 4000 Dropping into Standby

This is a very common problem with this chassis. The set has a safety protection system that will shut the set down (standby)in case a fault occurs. However,in many cases this can also be due to "dry" soldered connections in the power supply stages, particularly C12,adjacent to the main smpsu transformer It's well worth checking this, but

  • Re: connecting old to new

One small disadvantage of connecting active speakers to the pre-amp outputs,is that the muting does'nt function. This might not matter if you only have speakers connected to the Beomaster, but if you have a link system in use too, switching on the system in a link room, will put the active speakers on in the main room also.Better praps to connect the

  • Re: Beovision/Virgin Tivo/Hdmi Splitter problem

Is your splitter HDMI 1.3 spec I wonder, and HDCP compliant? By deduction,as you are only experiencing problems since installing the new pvr,the problem is there. The new Virgin pvr is quite something, and may have all sorts of interacting nonsense present on it's output.Sky hd pvr's for instance, won't output if they can't establish that
