Well, I bit the bullet and purchased the BeoSound 9000 and BeoLab 1 speakers referred to in my other thread. Now I just need to get it from Queensland to Western Australia! Do any Australian members have any reccommendations for reliable and economical transporters/packers? It's looking quite an expensive prospect at the moment - almost cheaper

What do you think of this photo? http://www.flickr.com/photos/78509131@N00/410401887/in/pool-bangolufsen/ I think it looks rather good...(not mine).

I must admit I'm usually in the "if it aint broke don't fix it camp" myself. My car sometimes come back from a service with (minor) problems it didn't have before it went! As a matter of interest, what does the CD drive cost to replace (perish the thought!)? Still making a decision on this one. The age of the system just bothers

Another question: Is the base of the BeoLab 1 speaker detachable for transport purposes?

Thanks Lee (and Tom!). Expert information, super fast. What more could I ask? The Beolab 1s are silver so the colour value information is good to know. Does the CD mechanism suffer any more wear and tear being mounted vertically rather than horizontally? Or is this a silly question? Stuart

I have the opportunity to purchase a used BeoSound 9000 on a stand and a pair of Beolab 1 speakers for A$ 6000 (~2680 Pounds). The system is about 7 years old and in good condition. Is this a good deal? Is the BeoSound likely to be a Mk 2 or 3 at this age? Is it likely to develop problems? Any opinions? Cheers

Hey David This is probably going to sound opportunistic, and I'm afraid I don't know anything about Beosound 2 sound quality, but I was bidding on your Beosound (I'm in Perth) but you beat me to it! If by any chance you do decide it's not what you want I'd be very keen to buy it from you. Cheers Stuart

Just a quick update. I thought some members might be interested to know that I did buy a US BeoTalk 1200 and a step-down transformer, and it all works perfectly in Australia - caller ID included! Thanks to all who offered advice. Now to decipher the manual... Stuart

Thanks Keith for such a comprehensive reply! With regard to the transformer issue, I have a spare Australian B&O transformer for a PSTN box. Would it be possible to use this with a US Beotalk? It's output voltage is less (~5volts (Aust. PSTN) vs 9.6volts (US Beotalk)) and the PSTN transformer does not say it is DC output, whereas the Beotalk

I'm wondering whether anyone can tell me about the feasibility of using a US model Beotalk 1200 in Australia. Is it possible? Has anyone done it? They seem considerably less expensive in the US, and they are rarely available in Australia. Stuart
