Is the Mk5 panel still an edge lit LED one? If so,then you may well be experiencing uneven backlighting.
-
A DVDO iScan Duo,for approximately £1000,would provide all the flexibility one would wish for, unless one specifically required scart connections. In combination with a non BS3 equipped B & O TV,the two would be an attractive proposition.
-
One has to ask how B & O can consider it acceptable to produce a £6000 TV utilising an edge lit LED panel that is susceptible to uneven backlighting, and clouding. Samsung produce a backlit LED panel with local dimming,so B & O should utilise it across their larger screen range even if it results in slightly thicker TVs.
-
Admittedly it would mean buying used rather than new,but have you considered the Beovision 5? A 2004 model would cost £3000.
-
Apparently,Samsung decided not to release their local dimming LED TVs in the UK in 2009. Their edge lit panels apparently exhibit some problems with screen/backlight uniformity giving rise to backlight bleed, and clouding.
-
Amonst the popular brands, one should not overlook Philips who still provide good audio in their TVs. A more realistic comparison with B & O would be Loewe. Given the trend towards ever thinner LCD TVs,I would have thought NXT speakers would be a solution.
Only in the BV10 and 7-55! On the whole, the picture quality seems rather good but the sound is usually the let down. I know I have been critical of the BV10 sound but it is still quite a way ahead of 'normal' TVs.
Are the 55" panels the same? B & O state for theirs 'direct type LED backlight
-
Personally,I would take issue with B & O's decision to set the Colour Temperature at such a high level(10,000 Kelvin),and not permit adjustment to the more usual 6500 Kelvin. Surely,an end user's preference should be paramount?

In their test of the BV8-40,Flatpanelshd state that B & O has increased not only the driver complement in it's loudspeaker, but has also incorporated a larger power supply, and increased the voltage being supplied to the speaker array. The review is well worth reading.

If I was planning to spend a staggering £15,000 on a TV (gawd knows how much it is in USD), I'd certainly go for the BV9 over and above the BV7-55. The picture isn't going to be any better than the BV7-40 and, indeed, could be worse (SD upscaled), has the same picture engine
