  • Re: Looking for a new 500GB external hard drive - Any advice?

I have just bought a Western Digital MyBook 500Gb with USB2 and Firewire 400 ports. It's connected to an old G3 iBook that I use as a media centre. The MyBook sits vertically on a bookshelf and does not look like a hard drive at all (though it has an annoying blue disco light on the front that I sorely wish was absent). It is not particularly noisy

  • Re: Beosound 2 OSX and iTunes

I am using iTunes 7.3.2 (6) on a G4 iMac with the BS2 plugin. It (usually) works well but is flakey at times. This has more to do with the software than the version of iTunes. I don't know about Intel-chipped Macs but look forward to hearing about your experience in readiness for my (later this year) Macbook.

  • Re: Interesting Phone

Samsung is making a phone-only phone marketed as the Jitterbug (complete with dial tone!) I can't help but notice a similarity between the shape of the Jitterbug and the shape of the design drawing representing Serenata. There's an interesting commentary on salon.com about the Jitterbug, especially the relatively novel nature of a mobile phone

  • Re: BM-Link 1.5

Hi Luis, I've now got the correct IR eye connected to my Beoport, and it works fine! Quite amazing really. The G4 iMac is a bit slow to respond sometimes and the sound can cut out for a second when I make menu selection with Beo4. I might use this as an excuse to justify an upgrade to a Mac Mini, Macbook or Macbook Pro! Thanks again for your help

  • Re: DVDs and CDs - Rack options?

If you want wall-mounted rather than free-standing, try Bookworm by Kartell (designed by Ron Arad in 1994). It's totally flexible (literally) and can store up to 11m of books, CDs or DVDs. http://www.nest.co.uk/product/bookworm/?PHPSESSID=8e3ccaf6ddf36b800d3909fd602b80d8 or try the Kartell site at http://www.kartell.it

  • Re: New MP3 player

It should have SD removable media to maintain compatibility with Beosound 3 and 4. More importantly, it should play a wider range of audio formats than are currently possible with Beosound 2. AAC format is the obvious choice because it is the default codec used by iTunes software. Protected AAC format, as used by the iTunes Music Store, (fingers crossed

Luigi: If you want control FrontRow with Beo4 you need the IR-eye connected to beoport. This cable has a minijack 3.5mm connector. I never saw a IR-eye with 7pin connector. You must connect the IR-eye into the IR socket of beoport. Good Luck. Thank you for your very detailed reply. My dealer sold me an "IR Kit Wireless 1" that plugs into the

  • Re: BM-Link 1.5

Hi Luis, I have watched the videos on your Web site (nice apartment btw!) and notice that you are controlling Front Row on your MacBook using the Beo4. I am trying to do the same thing but cannot get it to work properly. Can you please explain exactly how your system is set up, how you have configured your Beo4 and what options you have set in BM-Link

  • Re: BM-Link 1.5

marcus: I did not need an IR eye for Beoport because it's connected to a Beosound 4 in the same room that acts as an Audio Master. This might change if/when I add a Beovision to the equation. Spoke too soon. While I can change tracks and albums, I can't change applications (music - photos - video etc). Looks like an IR eye is on my shopping
