  • Re: Voltage question

None of the 8000-system components have a voltage setting switch so suitable replacement transformers will have to be found. (I may have some in stock if you can't find any elsewhere). The Beocord and Beogram are quite easy to convert in that the transformers are plug-in modules. The Beocord will work with a step-up transformer but the Beogram won't

  • Re: Counterfeit transistors

I don't do TV's so I can't comment specifically on the MX but for some BUxxx's there are different power ratings depending on the transistor housing (and sometimes also the brand). Some transistors have a metal backside with the rest of the house being a ceramic material, allowing much heat to dissipate to a heatsink. Others are completely

  • Re: Best way to clean Beogram 1902

A little isopropyl alcohol (tapehead cleaner or caburettor alcohol, it's all the same) will remove any dirt and remains from the old belt. Sadly, I currently have no belts for this model. Martin

  • Re: Beomaster 8000 display issue

Eric, You've come a long way already and you now know your B&O things much better than most other owners do theirs. Good job with the heatsink cover ! Bass, treble etc.. only works when "Filters" are on. When Filters are off, all tone controls are bypassed. Missing LED segments has been a common problem for the Beomaster 6000/8000

  • Re: Beogram 8000 - not spinning

Eric, Thanks for the kind comments. The new disc is extremely precise and the sensor needs no final adjusting but it is adviceable to place the sensor so that it shines through near the center of the hole pattern (the sensor swings in over the edge of the tachodisc and it secured with a screw). Check also for bad solders at the PCB, especially around

  • Re: Counterfeit transistors

Yes, even the large well-known suppliers sometimes haven't got a clue what they're selling. Luckily, the 2N3055 is not the hardest part to find but prices are very different from one supplier to another, which also suggests something "fishy". In case a supplier has sold fake components, the best thing he can do is cooperate with the

nobby, BM5500 transistors.... do you remember what "brand" they were ? Martin

  • Re: Counterfeit transistors

The cost of a transistor varies a lot depending on the brand, type, amount, dealer etc. but this particular type is normally a pound or two each. For the producers of fake components, surely this type of business can't stay a success for very long. Don't dare to think what would happen if f.e. B&O got some of these into their production

  • Counterfeit transistors

They have made counterfeit Rolex watches, counterfeit Gucci shoes and Lacoste shirts but counterfeit transistors ?? Yes indeed ! I recently had troubles with counterfeit transistors of the type 2N3055 made by Toshiba - or at least that's what it says on them. For a start the Toshiba logo is all wrong, should have been the "handwritten"

  • Re: Capacitors

Of course you can never make a solid rule and there are exceptions, but it seems that the capacitors used by B&O during the 60's tend to last much longer than the never ones. It's safe to say that all 1970's and 80's equipment will need new capacitors by now if not already replaced. Speakers are too often overlooked and their caps
