  • Re: Guess the Project?

Correct! :) The difference is really quite remarkable; I had one mid-range that was in very poor shape and was affecting the sound quite a bit...

  • Guess the Project?

Any guesses what I set out to do tonight? :)

  • Re: Penta signal path troubleshooting

That did it!! C15 (2,2μ 50v) on the amplifier board was my Waterloo -- I broke the connection somewhere in the midst of replacing it. Now fixed via a patch wire, insulated with shrink tubing. Nearly all the capacitors are replaced in the crossovers (Dillen and I are tracking down the more obscure ones for this extremely early Penta I) and I'm taking

  • Re: Penta signal path troubleshooting

Double-checking my work, I already found one broken trace on the amplifier board (where a silver ring had pulled away from the board.) I guess you can't be too careful with these 1980s boards - very fragile! Will check everything again, make some repairs, and report back... thanks for the tip!

  • Penta signal path troubleshooting

I'm in the midst of refurbishing the BeoLab 150 amplifiers which are a part of a set of Penta I's. I've completed what I thought was a successful recapping of the amplifier board, together with an upgrade of the IC2 opamp, only to discover that I've unfortunately rendered the BeoLab (temporarily?) inoperable. Here's the situation right now: Fuses are

  • Penta I Crossovers: Early Type 6603

I thought people might be interested in some pictures of the crossovers from a set of Penta MkI that I am refurbishing. These are North America (110v) models, but more interestingly they seem to be extremely early in the production run, and are very different from the MkII and MkIII crossover circuits. • Re: DVD connection (RCA video in) on Beovision MX5000

Unfortunately none of the advice given regarding European sets will be relevant to a North American MX. The good news is that we have *both* the Service and the regular manuals available for silver/gold members. The Service Guide is currently mis-filed under the European MX5000, but I'll see if Van can fix that for us. The User Guide should be online

  • Re: iPod to B&O System Recommendations

Turning back to the original question, with most iPods the jack at the back of the dock will output a line-level signal. Leaving aside questions of the quality of the D/A converters involved, in theory this signal should be pretty clean. Does the volume change when you adjust the iPod's own volume in your setup?

  • Re: Beosystem 2300

Given the window, it's probably (although not certain) that your 2300 can support two-way remotes such as the BeoLink 5000 and 7000. You may be able to see the IR LEDs illuminate briefly after a CD track change or other such event. There were a few made with windows with nothing behind them, and a few more with all the requisite hardware but a newer

Actually it looks this outboard encoder just might do it: http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=14191&nav=0
