After studying the 4400 with the top cover and bottom cover off I realized the B&O engineers left a tiny path from the underside where a small screwdriver could go in at an angle and remove the two inner screws that hold the slider control bar to the faceplate. I was able to remove the faceplate and check out where the balance slider isn't mating
