1.The quietness is down to the lack of RIAA. The missing channel is either the cartridge - not so likely on an SP14 in my experience - or a dodgy connection either in the DIN plug or a dodgy adapter. 2. Earhing the DIN will do this - good adapters have an extra earth wire. Run any wire between the chassis of the Beogram and an earth on the amplifier

1. Does your amp have a built in phono stage (RIAA?) If not, that accounts for the very quiet sound - probably sounds a bit bass light too! 2. You need an earth wire from the casing of the DIN plug to the earth of the amplifier.

There is no best system. Of the components: The best amplifier is the 5000 - unless you have active speakers in which case it is the 7000. The best CD player is the CD5500 (the CD50 is far too unreliable , and is simply too weird - a single channel DAC!?? - the fact that hardly two are the same design) The best cassette player is the 5000 - unless you

Lovely system - I have the same components. The Beomaster 4400 is the best receiver made by B&O in my opinion. Wonderful sound and superbly made. The Beogram 4004 is the last of this range of turntables and again is well made and can be serviced to get it working reliably - one of the best Beograms though cartridges are expensive to replace. It will work - use the component lead - composite is the worst quality. The VX7000 will be almost useless because of the lack of remote but using it as you suggest is possible.

At a guess the 2300 is set to option 0 - you need to change it to Option 1. On the Beo4, press the red dot and LIST at the same time. Press LIST then till OPTION? shows on the screen. Press GO. Then press LIST till A.OPT shows. Press 1 and the 2300 should blink and will then accept codes from the remote.

How about a bit of excitement here!! These are great prizes - a BeoSound 8 - the newest piece of kit offered by B&O and all we have had is one chap deciding to go to the pub!! I am disqualified from winning but I still think this is exciting!

There is a special 7 pin Phono lead - it has extra shielding compared to the normal lead. If you have an 8000 system, the lead from the Beogram usually has Phono written on it on a sticker for this reason. You obviously know the 6002 only has one way Datalink.

I would look at the DIN plug - there will probably be a loose wire to the casing. I suggest the difference in sound could be due to the angle the DIN plug is pressed in at. Should be identical otherwise.
