BL5s take the analogue input, convert it to digital (via ADC), apply it's sound correction DSP stuff (DSP), then convert it back to analogue (DAC) to make the sound you hear. Analogue -> ADC -> DSP -> DAC -> Amp/Cones The ADC (Analogue Digital Conversion) used in the speakers can handle a 2VRMS signal only. Any more than this can lead

Hi all I've been enjoying my BL5 for a year or so now, but have recently had a problem where the synch cable not working. As I am using the BL5s with a non-B&O system I use the sync cable to keep each speaker's volume setting in check as well as power on/off functions (since the remote doesn't speak to each speaker reliably 100%). This

Hello all I've now got my hot little hands on the Beolab 5s! They've replaced a very well regarded Canadian hi-fi speakers of similar price and a valve-based OTL amplifiers. The BL5s were purchased for aesthetic reasons but I'm really surprised they don't just look better but sound better. Bass control is amazing. Ability to keep up

A DAC will offer much higher quality analogue input to the speakers than your current inbuilt Mac Pro Laptop analogue inputs. I'd suggest the very good value for money and small " Devilsound DAC" for about $250 USD. There's a review at: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Devilsound-DAC-Product-Review And also: http://www.positive

Thank you all for your responses so far. I was not aware the stores were B&O owned - that makes it rather less likely to negotiate. It's an unusual thing to be spending $30k and have the "cheek" to not include a single sync cable or installation (another $300ish). I've never dealt with B&O previously and for a "premium

Hello all Has anyone had sucess in negotiating price of new B&O equipment? If negotiation is not possible isn't it anti-competitive price-fixing behaviour (illegal in Australia)? Your experiences are appreciated. Kind regards Adrian

Thanks again for your helpful advice Soundproof (we've got to stop meeting like this!). Do you know what the RMS output of your processor is? I'm concerned connecting a 5V RMS or 20V RMS unit will be more difficult or am I just fretting over nothing? I'm OK with hi-fi... but BEO-land is another (good!) planet! :) Kind regards Adrian

Hello all What is the best way to use Beolab 5 front speakers with Beolab 3 rear speakers with a non-B&O Surround Processor? If we remember that: Beolab 5 wants fixed 2V RMS line input (volume controlled on speaker). Beolab 3 wants a variable 2V RMS line input (volume controlled from source). If using a Beosystem 3 I assume that the Powerlink (or

Thank you for your helpful reply Soundproof. Since the existing CD player, TV and some other sources use HDMI I think the best way is a HDMI switch with SPDIF out which can then connect to the speakers. All I need to do now is get a better feel for the speakers because at present the "soundstage" and "detail" doesn't seem to

Good day all I am considering the purchase of Beolab 5 speakers but I have concerns on how other equipment can be connected. If a CD player has a SPDIF digital coax out I can simply connect it to the speakers and voila a perfect solution... but! How then do you connect multiple digital sources with SPDIF digital coax outputs? What is the best way to
