I have the so called inferior speakers. I think they sound good after their new caps and re-foam. I'm looking to get some S45-2, type 6312. Can anyone tell me what to look out for with regard to this model of speakers? Yachadm, did you have to get a new board when you did your caps? And how expensive were they? Dillen, can you elaborate on the changes

Yeah, thats right. I was thinking of upgrading to a longer lasting type of the plastic variaty. I hear these are larger than the original alloy types. Shouldn't be too much hassle to fit, I will have to enlarge the hole in the cardboard holder/circuit board. Marty

After my refoam I feeling confident in having a go at replacing the capacitors on my S45 - 6427's. Only thing is which ones to go for. I thought it would be a case of simply replacing what I had, but oh no. I have just read a thread on the subject, and to tell you the truth, my head hurts. Can anyone point me in the right direction in laymans terms

Thanks all, I have now got nice sounding speakers again... The Goodhifi website is well worth a look if anyone is undertaking a refoam. Photo sequences and video how to's. Once again, thanks all. Marty

Don't know what happened there... Can't seem to get rid of all that junk that attached to my mail... Edit - I have removed it but I would do a virus scan if I were you just in case! Peter

Hi all, Congratulations on a very informative forum. I have got a refoam kit for a pair of S45's and was wondering if anyone has got any advise for the first timer. I have read on here that it can be tricky getting it right regarding fitting shims. Also that if it gets done wrong I will have irreparable damage. Is this so with my speakers? The refoam
