I recently aquired an immaculate CD3500, which works in every respect as is should, some of the time. Some CDs it will scan and display the tracks, then switch off, some it won't scan at all, a few it will play but with massive distortion, and others it will play perfectly. The CDs it doesn't like don't seem to be any more or less damaged

I recently aquired an elderly but immaculate Beogram 3500 CD player. It is very choosy about which of my CDs it will play and which it won't. With some CD's the track lights illuminate, but it refuses to play, on others it tries to read the CD then just switches itself off in disgust. I have recently acquired an elderly Beomaster amp with no mains plug. One mains feed wire is blue, the other black. Does anyone know which is live. There appears to be a 'build sheet' inside the casing, which I haven't extracted yet, maybe this will reveal the answer? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am an audio novice, so please forgive what may seem like an inane question... The time has come for me to stitch together a system from various odds and ends including a Beogram 3500 CD player and a Beomaster 3000 amp/receiver. The outputs/inputs seem to bear no resemblence to each other, and certainly won't fit together without revised connectors
