I am no expert, but it could be crackling to do with ADSL. Do you have a filter fitted? Also my broadband wireless router installed near to my PSTN base sometimes causes crackling interference. Hi Andy, Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment so I can't play with my toys! I bought the PSTN base brand new and it has never had more than 2 handsets registered to it. I don't know about the secondhand handset that I have bought. Perhaps if it was part of a multi-handset set-up this is causing the problem
