  • Re: MX 5500 audio distortion

I have cleaned the gold coloured hooks, they where quite dusty. Seems the works at start-up, but after a while the 'craking' noise is back. As I replaced the 'Video and sound switching boards' it must be someting on the main board. Any sguggestins or hints are welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will see to it. Its hard to describe the noise, but it is not only when switching on/off, it is allways there, also if the unit is on internal speakers. Don't worry I have repaired this tv several times.

  • MX 5500 audio distortion

I have a problem with the audio of my MX5500 When switched on all is ok except that audio is not good, very loud distorsion through the internal speakers When I mute or put the sound externally via an AV amplifier it is gone. Switching the TV off gives sometimes the same loud noise, fading away in loudness. I have replaced the 'video and sound switching

  • MX5500 S-VHS input settings

Hello, I´m trying so setup a connection between the TV-out from my HTPC and the S-VHS input from the MX5500. I have found out that there is a whole setup menu for the MX 4000 - 6000 - 7000, but when I press menu on the remote I can only adust timer and p-link. Any ideas how to setup the S-VHS input on the MX5500 thanks, Henk.

  • Re: Dead MX5500

Sorry I should describe it better, C12 was not blown but serverly leaking, corroded. Therefore TR8 was defect, D6 was not. I have replaced all three of them. I'm a bit confused about the position of C12, according to the schematics the plus is connected to the base of TR8. The silkscreen marking on the PCB says that it must be placed otherwise.

Checked the PSU on the bench and 8V is present. Other voltages not but there is no load attached so maybe that's not so strange. Found a defect diode in the mainboard, D6 is a short and I suspect C12 and TR8 also. I think that explains the PSU shutting down? Henkd

Also removed connector P2 from tunerboard still not powering up. So I'm assuming that there no problem in the powersection of the tuner board.

  • Dead MX5500

Reading the 'how to repair the MX5500 guide" I quickly repaired my own MX, C20 & C25 were dried out. With that in mind I bought a second one, for the children. Same problem I tought - when plugged in, no red led, TV stays dead. So I replaced the C20, C25 and later when that did not solve the problem also C13, C10, C11, C15, C18. Still nothing
