Hi, Just had exactly the same problem with my 10 years old BS9000. I fixed it by: - downloading the service manual to get the exact test modes - going into test mode - selecting "Lightpen Out" (this moves the laser diode collimator/carriage in a more accessible position) - cleaning the lens with isopropyl alcohol Works now again as a charm

Problem solved After downloading the pertinent service manual and checking the IR circuitry, I realized that the doors could eventually act as a reflector should there be dust or build up on the inside face of the doors. Although the doors are frequently cleaned, it is most of the time on the outside. And indeed, after removing the doors and cleaning
