    Re: November quiz!

Well I think we have a winner! I'll need to check with Lee and will post the winner's name once I have, but in the meantime, here are the answers:

    1. What was Bang and Olufsen's first quadraphonic receiver?

Despite its more modern appearance, the BM6000 predated the BM3400. Answer BM6000.

    2. Which was the B&O cassette deck that was first fitted with HX-Pro ?

Beocord 8002 - the 9000 was introduced at almost the same time but luckily no-one argued that!

    3. Name the speakers that were shaped like a cube.

    Beovox 2500.

    4. Which speaker had 7 drive units?

The ones I know are the Beovox 5000 which has four 2" tweeters, two midrange units and a large woofer.

    5. B&O's first colour video recorder was a V2000 type machine. Which was the first VHS machine?

    The VHS 80.

    6. Name the FM only receiver which had a caterpillar type control mechanism.

OK, this was a little tricky. Lots of BM1700 but in fact that had AM as well. The FM only version was black and called the BM1600. Seems more common in the US.

    7. Which were the headphones available for the Beosystem 2400?

The U70s. And no, I don't know where you can get new ear pads!  Laughing

    8. A remote control with a transparent display is a B&O novelty. Which one is it?

Beolink 5000 - very clever idea and especially as if works both way round depending on function.

    9. Mythical black fronted top of the range receiver from 1979.

Of course not so mythical now!! We found one! The Beomaster 4401. Pictures are on site!

    10. The largest slide rule receiver made - in its first incarnation.

Beomaster 1200 - was replaced by the black 1001.

    11. B&O's first production colour televsion with a 25" screen.

Surprised this caused some consternation - Beovision 3000

    12. B&O's broadcast standard tuner.

Beomaster 5000 - part of the Beolab 5000 system. It has variable inputs so that it can be used in a broadcasting station.

Well done to all of you that took part. The final answer is: 1,666,980,000 . Laughing

    Re: November quiz!

All my answers to the quiz were correct but I have forgotten to send them in time! Embarrassed

    I am not forgivable!  Devil

But there is though good news: this is the first time we can see photos of the so mythical Beomaster 4401. Thank you very much to Frede Kristenssen (Classic), and congratulations you will be the second winner in this quiz!

Indeed, as promised in the former Beoworld forum, the first member who publish photos of the 4401 win a good bottle of Champagne from my personal cellar. Gift

I sent you a PM, Frede.

BTW, would it be possible to have larger photos on the gallery or in a special post?

Congratulations also to the future winner of the November quiz!

Frede has done some good pictures for the site. The first three are in the products area and I do have some more since. Frede is a real star and I hope will be featuring in an article on Beoworld soon. He deserves the champagne!!

The Winner is Marcus Maisberger (marcus_m) !!

His Prize has been packed and is ready to be despatched on Monday!

Can i also reiterate how kind it was of Dennis Jehs Loh (Dennis) to redonate this prize. Very much in the spirit of BeoWorld - and i'd like to thank him personally too.

    I'm really very happy!!

Yesterday I did clean up the sideboard where it will be placed and had a look at my C40's, which have been on storage for years. The foam looks good but unfortunately the edges have some dents :-( The previous owner had too little respect of B&O Super Angry

I've been looking for a Beomaster 1200 for years now, but has never been able to find a decent one at a reasonable price. So my quest is over, as the Beomaster 3400 will take his place now Big Smile

I'll take some photos and post them here.....

By the way, which speakers were originaly sold with the BM3400?

Many thanks again, especially to Dennis for donating the price and to the Beoworld moderating team for all the effort of this wonderfull quizzes - keep on going!

The unit was very cold, but I couldn't get my fingers of it, as you might see my fingerprints on the dial.

Unfortunatey the delivery service was not that carefull, so one of the acrylic glasses got lost inside the unit, but this already fixed Big Smile

    Re: November quiz!

At the moment I'm listening to the BM with my Beovox c40 connected, which look great as the finish is the same black alu like BeoMaster.

Is anyone familiar with this unit, as I'm having some problems in tuning. The upper tunig indicator is about twice as bright as all the other lights of the unit. And I don't succed in tunig stereo without noise. Just had a look at the service manual section and only found the BM2000, which should be quite similar. Any assistance is highly welcome.

Want to fix the problem as soon as possible to bring this beautifull unit to its final place.

    Cheers, Marcus

    Re: November quiz!

Are you using an antenna ?

The discriminator lights are supposed to light up evenly when a station is tuned spot on. The AFC button should correct if tuned in close. If it doesn't maybe one lamp is bad.

    Re: November quiz!

    Hi Martin,

yes, antenna is connected. The lower discriminator lights up as bright as the "on" and "Stereo" do, but the upper one is much brighter. Can the lamp get too high voltage?

There are three buttons. "mono", "stereo" and "matrix". Mono is quite clear, but what does stereo and matrix do?

    Re: November quiz!

    Martin,

an additional information: if I tune from low frequencies to higher, the lower discriminator starts lighting, then the stereo indicator also starts lighting. If I tune further, the upper discriminator starts lighting as well. When it is real bright (brighter then the lower one), the audio is muted (stereo still on!). After tuning further, you can hear noise again.
