Re: Socket options with Masterlink, Powerlink and Ethernet

    marcus_m:

Only problem is that the wires of the B&O ML cable are too thick for the RJ45 connectors. So you have to use RJ45 connectors where the 8 wires are arranged in two rows.

    Marcus,

can you name a producer or shop/article no.? I cannot find detailes on how the wires are arranged...

    Thanks in advance

    Ralf

PS: By the way, as somebody mentioned this, CAT7 cables are there, just the plugs/wall-mount are CAT5e/6 only (used to be so at least 2 years ago when we wired everything with CAT7 cables and put CAT5e wall sockets).

    Hi Ralf,

I bought them at Reichelt (www.reichelt.de). Search for STEWART SW. But keep in mind to drill bigger holes for the wires! You will also need a crimp tool if don't already have one.

    Good luck,

    Marcus

PS: cat5e/cat6 connector and sockets are no problem, as long as they are shielded

Re: Socket options with Masterlink, Powerlink and Ethernet

    Thanks/Danke!

ok - but if I don't want to drill the holes - might HIROSE RJ-45 Stecker TM21 (search for this at www.reichelt.de) be better? It is TM21 (see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Wire_Gauge) so 0,5 mm possible vs. 0,14/0,09. Am I guessing this right?

    Hi Ralf,

unfortunately these connectores will not work. There were the first ones I bought. You also have to drill out the holes but even then they are not working reliable!! With the dimensions you have to be very careful: some talk about section of the copper, some about diameter of the whole wire, some about AWG. But fact is, that the wires of the ML cable are thicker than normal CAT6 or 7 wires :(

    Hi Ralf, Hi Marcus,

why don´t you just buy a standard ethernet patch cable, cut it into two pieces and then connect it with an open ended ML cable using an ML junction box? This way you won´t have any problems to assemble the RJ45 connector and you get a very reliable connection!

Re: Socket options with Masterlink, Powerlink and Ethernet

Hagen, because it just doesn't look as nice.... I did this, it worked, but not very sophisticated. Looks kind of cheap.

    Thanks for the idea, though.

    Best regards

1 option is to cut your powerlink, splice it in like you said...than run that through a wall plate for a TV coax.....the round hole...it's not AS clean..but you could try it...

I'm going with the super clean way...as I just found a cable guy that can do this...

    Thanks,k

    k,

I didn't but that sound interesting. Can you post a link (or two)?

    Thanks

Ralf, have a look in the ML-Handbook, there is also the Lexicon system mentioned. But if you crimp the Ethernet plugs directly on the ML cable it looks as clean :)

Re: Socket options with Masterlink, Powerlink and Ethernet

    Marcus,

what kind of "hub" do you use?

Have a look at my question http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/36512.aspx

Re: Socket options with Masterlink, Powerlink and Ethernet

    Ralf,
don't connect an ethernet hub there!!! I'm not sure what will be damaged!!
I separated the ML_over_Ethernet cables from the Computer network patch panel and used a plastic installation box for normal light wiring. For connecting the single wires I used WAGO 243-208 (look at reichelt.de). For the shielding a WAGO 222-415 was used. Very simple but working good :)
    What about your self-made cables?
