Re: New speaker between BeoLab 5 and BeoLab 9?

    Stephan:

In my opinion, the current B&O speaker setup is well positioned and there is no space to fill between Lab 5 and 9 except of the pricing as there is a massive 5k difference per speaker between the two models.

Exactly. If B&O were to introduce something above the BL5, who would want the 5's anymore - unless the new speakers cost again twice as much, or were something completely else than yet another floor standing ALT speaker. Therefore the 9's and 5's need to kept at a distance as well...

Hm... I wondering if B&O realise something priced twice as much than BL5, would it be twice as much better ? I think NO ... It is really hard to beat Aliens ! Or B&O will play on same card like 100" BV.

Therefore it would be interesting to see something between, for example for people who desperately want BL5, don't have money for 5 or don't have room for it.... giving to them quality, performance of BL5 and small cabinet with price of somewhere in between can be interesting choice! Than you will ask question who will than buy 5's ... There will be always people who will go for it, because BL5 is becoming an icon and it's really hard to beat them.

Will a x2 priced speaker sound as twice as good?

    NO!

To be very honest with you, at low levels the Lab5s don't sound THAT much better than my old BL8000/BL2 combination but if you go to sound levels above 55, you will notice a massive improvement as the 5s just don't care what you play at which volume, it all sounds perfect and relaxed while other speakers tend to sound stressed, like they cannot handle it...

I've heard a lot of speakers before, from Genelec studio monitors, to Wilson Watt Puppies, Avantgarde horns, B&W Nautilus speakers an so on, the all sounded good to me BUT I love the radical approach of B&O (2500W power each, self adjusting, unique design, massive price tag), which is not only form follows function ... it's EVERYTHING follows function... love it!

In my humble opinion the 104" BV is just a showcase item that says: "Look, what we can do, if you pay for it!"

I'd be interested in sales figures of this model, I would make a bet that they haven't sold that much yet...

For the future of B&O I'd love to see more cool "gadgets" like the Beotime or a Beosound 5 unit with iTunes connection at a reasonable price instead of a speaker that fills a gap at the high end of their speaker range...

    Just my 5 cents :-)

    Hi Stephan,

I have also Beolab 5´s. How large is your livingroom? Do you think 20m2 is too small for the speakers?

Re: New speaker between BeoLab 5 and BeoLab 9?

From the little bits of information that i hear on occasion, I believe the new speakers will build on the Lab5's.  They will incorporate more speakers utilising AL, but be of a different technology.

These speakers will look to rival very high end brands and be of a design that utilises more aluminium and be of a real iconic design.  The project is still at early stages but there is momentum growing to put Bang way ahead of other brands and to establish itself as a true technological leader again.

Watch this space - but dont intend these to be released for a few years yet.  Apparently the speakers wont be released until perfection has been reached.

    Hi Martin,

My living room is 5 x 5m, I don't think that the 5s are too big but they could fill much larger rooms....

Maybe its a little too much but after all I love them and I tend to play at much higher volumes :-)

A speaker built on the 5s sounds interesting but as I said, if I had to decide what to do next, I would get the current stuff working with nowadays technology (Beosound 5 > iTunes) and work on small emotional B&O things that you can buy without thinking how to finance them (Beotime as an example) to get the tech blogs talking and B&O back into a better financial situation.

I respect the approach to go to the higher end in terms of speakers but how many customers will buy a set of speakers at a price of lets say 40k ? (The price tag is just a guess 2x the Lab5 price plus the price increase of the next years )

At least it sounds good that the speakers are not on the near horizon, gives me time to save some money and thinking of a reasonable excuse to buy them :-)
