    Hey Peter, I just wanted to let you know, I have a CD4500 open right now and the DAC chip is the TDA 1541A, not the 1541.  Maybe this wasn't the case for all of them though, as I can only speak for the one in front of me.

    You are quite correct. In fact the DAC fitted does seem to vary. Some 5500s have the plain 1541 and some even have the 1541P. Equally the 4500 can have the A model. The specs suggest the A is fitted to the 5500 and the non A to the 3500/4500 but, as you have found, not always! Laughing

    Yes it's trivial, but as my favorite system, I must do all in my power to defend the 4500! Cool
