B&O completely pulled out of the mobile market after the "Ericsson" incident more than a decade ago. We all "knew" that they would never come back. They changed their approach from just adding a "skin" (to an existing phone) to designing a phone from scratch, and released Serene and Serenata.
Even if the Serenata was a major flop, they could re-think their strategy even if the CEO said they would focus on audio and video only: They could launch a mobile that just focused on audio and video...
The phone segment was important for dealers, it was a safe bet for the Xmas season as it would generate traffic and sales in the stores. Today, land-line-telephone's are a dying breed and if B&O are to keep producing phones they will have to go mobile. BeoCom 5 will be the last land-line-phone from Struer.
