    Re: New Beosystem 3

There seems to be an issue with the picture quality of the Beosystem 3. I had the opportunity to test the Leica Pradovid D-1200 at home. I connected the projector in two different ways:

    - To the Beosystem 3 over DVI

    - To a MacBook Pro over DVI

The Leica Pradovid showed an outstanding quality for digital pictures. But there was a huge difference between both connection types. I looked at the same photos over the MacBook and Apple TV connected to the Beosystem 3. The pictures were much better when I connected the beamer to the MacBook. Obviously the signal from the Beosystem 3 seems to have lesser quality. I don't know if this is caused by Apple TV or the video processing of the Beosystem 3.

If there is an upgrade for the Beosystem 3, my wish-list is as followed:

    - Add some digital audio autput connections for the BeoLab 5

    - Improve picture quality by adding HDMI 1.3

Keep in mind that there's probably a number of similar picture enhancements built into both products.  You'll see some other similar anomalies when you connect a BeoSystem 3 to say a Pioneer Elite or Runco television that also have their own video processing going on internally.  It's to be expected and has nothing at all to do with the picture quality of the system 3.

Also ... correct me if I'm wrong, but HDMI 1.3 from what I understand with the exception of Deep Color (which isn't really supported by any home A/V sources) doesn't really offer much more in terms of "picture quality."  The majority of changes between the versions happened on the audio side of things.

    Re: New Beosystem 3

The reason you're seeing such a big difference is because all Macs have their own colour profiles built in - which is incorrect. It may have looked brighter/more vivid, but did it look more natural?

B&O has always tried to reproduce the most natural image possible, not the most 'wow' image...

The big difference was in resolution of still photos. The resolution of the projector was way better when connecting the MacBook directly. Surprisingly some spots on the pictures turned out to be birds in the sky. There must be a bottleneck in the Apple TV/ Beosystem 3 setup.

It is my understanding that AST is not yet available.  It will be added to and enabled on BS3s sometime in the future.
