Re: Demo CD for B&O - Based on posting Ultimate Track for B&O.
soundproof:I really enjoyed the list that Andro put together, and have already made some musical discoveries that would otherwise probably have continued to go unnoticed. (There's so much out there!) The Tunstall track is brilliant and I had missed Beck's Pork Pie Hat -- both very good tracks. And Puncher's comments about the Phil Collins selection will have me seek that out - I'm particularly fond of live acoustic recordings, feel there's nothing better at conveying a system's ability to convey place and music.
Glad you liked the Tunstall track...but did you have to give Puncher credit for the Phil Collins track? We cynical acerbic Americans struggle for proper recognition here when we do things politely and well. I'm going to have to drag 'Rumors' out of the pile now, 'cause I would have gone with 'the Chain' or 'Never Going Back Again.' That's just me though. Russ

Mea maxima culpa! My memory failed me - I should have checked. I enjoyed your run-through of things to listen for, Russ!

No harm done Soundproof. I acknowledge that simply tossing out song titles without some guidance as to their utility is less helpful than this thread could be. So, c'mon guys! Answer the big question! Why? Why did you nominate that track?

As an example...my choice of 'The Chain' is driven by the open-ness of the track, the LACK of layers...if you listen, you can hear Mick counting in at the beginning, but also after the stop-break in the middle. Absolutely puts you in the studio...if the speakers are up to it. Generally, I find that the best demo tracks are simple and spare...but that is not hard-and-fast, my Mention of Stephen Curtis Chapman's 'Dive' runs contrary to that rule.

I would have owned up - honest

Andro:Kokomo, I'm a bit offended by your comments. All I was trying to do was start something that I thought would make members more involved with each other. To top it off, you had to say it 3 times. My rule is, if I read a posting and I have nothing nice to say...Then I just keep my opinions to myself. Do you realize how much work was involved in what I did?...I hope in the future you're more carefull with your comments. Thanks for nothing, Andro
I truly apologise Andro if you found my comments offensive, that most definitely was not my intention. However I don't think the amount of work involved, by definition makes that effort necessarily worthwhile. All I was trying to say was that any list will always be subjective, so asking others for their contributions will never conclude with other than a "best of"' compilation of individual's favourite tracks.
But that's not the point of this message, it is to say sorry if you found anything offensive, I have too much respect for the group and its members than to offend anyone. And that includes you!

Re: Demo CD for B&O - Based on posting Ultimate Track for B&O.
I am coming late to this thread so will skip around the controversy and say enjoy threads like the one this was intended to be for two reasons. 1. Like many people I get stuck in my ways with the music I listen to, it's nice to get suggestions from fellow Beoworlders on what sounds good on a B&O system. I have ordered several CD's in response to threads here, the latest being the Duke Ellington at Newport CD from the original thread that I am very much looking forward to. 2. When I see lists of fellow Beoworlders favourite songs , and why people have chosen them, I feel that I am getting to know them a little better. Simon

Listen to Dave Brubeck's Quartet High Definition CD. It's on the market! The clarity of the sound comes out smoothly ! It is a true experience! It is true that B&O technology reveals the truth in music... Even in Mp3 compilation cds the awesome sound of a B&O system is superb! But after all, we love B&O for this cause. Because music is really heard through our B&O systems! NO further comments! I wish I could own a B&O when I were younger.... but it is never too late to enjoy !!!

Re: Demo CD for B&O - Based on posting Ultimate Track for B&O.
Apology accepted..As I am new to the group my intention was to try to contribute. I do understand what you're saying, but all the tracks selected was from suggestions by the members. That means that the members that replied to the original survey cared enough to contribute their idea as to music that would make people who don't fully appreciate the sound quality that the B&O speakers can put out. As for myself, none of the tracks on the CD was in my taste. I kept an open mind when I compiled the CD based on suggestions. So when I listened to the tracks, my opinion would be more about with the quality of the sound and not my personal preferrence for any of the tracks. One thing good that came out of this for me was that it opened up a whole new genre of music that I never would have listened to and that is in part because of the suggestions from others. This time around, I actually sat down and concentrated on what I was listening to....The Drums, Vocals, every little detail that made the sound of B&O speakers different from the rest.....As I mentioned in the beginning, I have a Bose surround sound system that is far more expensive than my used B&O. But you know what, I just hooked up my B&O as my main Home Theater sound system....
