Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
Based on your description the Beosound 5 would not be a good 2 way remote. You mentioned it has the size of a magazine which in my opinion is too big to just have it lie on the table. When they announced the Beo 5, I was hoping it would be 2 way. If they turn it into a all around 1 way remote that can be used for other devices, that would be good as well. Right now it feels like they are at 20% of where they want to be so that it gets the same status as Beo 4 which survived 10 years or so. JK

Not at all - the configuration possibilities make it almost endlessly flexible.
And it *will* have the capability of 'learning' new commands, once the software has been modified to do so.

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
jk, I'm sorry, maybe the post was unclear. What I meant was that if you are in a link room with no monitor (whether a tv screen or a computer screen) then a readout on your remote would be nice. As for the role of the BeoSound 5, I didn't mean that it would be a remote, but it has a large screen itself, and so you would not be "blind" where ever there was a BeoSound 5. AND, the BeoSound 5 has been discussed internally as the first of a family, certainly leading me to believe that other complimentary products will be launched subsequently that might make our requests seem very "ML"

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
In the last Torben interview he said the Beosound 5 would be very much like a Sonus system. If there is no 2 way remote at start, that would be a bit of a let down - even though not a show stopper

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
I have just purchased the Harmony 1000 and it will be going back unless Logitech can resolve the very limited range of this product when using it with B&O equipment. Anything other then direct line of sight to the IR receiver won't work. You can't bounce the signal off walls like you can with the beolink and Pronto. Works fine with NON B&O equipment. Looks like there might be an issue with transmiting the higher frequency used by B&O equipment. I have to stand up to get my Avant to respond to IR commands from the Harmony, never had a problem with the Pronto.

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
Like a number of members here, I've dreamed of having one remote to run the house rather than quantity sitting on the coffee table. I like the Beo 4, and have gotten used to the design and the way it feels, versus the Beo 5. But the reality remaining was the fact that many of our components for years were non-B&O products. We experimented with a number of various remotes including the Logitech range. Logitech is our choice for our keyboards ( Di Novo Edge ) and related mice, and all of those models work very well. The Di Novo Edge even looks like a component of our B&O stereo. But other electronic items unfortunately don't respond as well to the Harmony remote commands. For example take our B&O BS 3200. The Harmony interface first could not find B&O, and when it appeared to work ( or at least we thought it did ), it did not. Long delays, and with many commands, no response whatsoever. We had a Gateway plasma previously, and the commands were limited to the merest of basics only. I checked Logitech's remote website under " configure. " I could not find our B&O equipment at all after quite a search. I then called tech support, waiting the usual decade or so, and finally spoke to the technician who told me everything he knew about the subject. He knew nothing. He was not sure if any of it would work, did not know about B&O, did not know why it wasn't on the Logitech interface list, and could not be of any help whatsoever. So the various Harmony models over the years we hoped might provide an inexpensive all-in-one solution, have ultimately all been returned. For years we had to scramble and find the various TV and Sat remotes. I heard about the BV 8 and started hiding money away from my wife . . . Sorry, I mean saving. When I diplomatically pestered our B&O salesman repeatedly to near psychosis, he finally gave us a very good deal on one. He even helped us configure our Beo 4 to everything, which put two other remotes in the drawer, and gave him a little well earned rest from our store visits. Which, in summation, may be one way of solving the situation, much to B&O's delight.

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
Hi All, I have two of these remotes and really like them. I had no trouble locating B&O BS3000 on the website, it even had BM6000, altho the remotes I have can't control the high freq IR of this model, but thats OK cause I also kinda like the retro remote for it, and at least I got rid of the other 5 ugly remotes! What is good about them for me, and to be honest, I haven't done a lot of market research on others so my experience is limited... is the one touch 'watch TV' /' listen CD' commands and everything gets turned on as it should. The web support is also very good and worked perfectly for me. The only complaint I have is that it can't control the A/C properly, as it can only turn it on/off and the temp setting on my A/C gets lost blowing only warm air... so if any one knows how to fix this... would be grateful, cause I'd love to get rid of those remotes also. For those of you who are considering getting one you can go to the Logitech website and you can do a search to check before you buy which equipment is supported by the various models.

Logitech 1000 is an excellent remote. I really like it! Last month I had the choice: Beo4 vs. Beo5 vs. Logitech 1000 and the Logitech won. The finish is comprable with B&O.

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
matheyl: Hi everyboby! I have some doubts about the ablity of my Beo5 to control nonB&O stuff, as my decoder. My dealer told me that it was not a priority for B&O. "Change your TVset" was the radical advice of my retailer... Indeed, my Avant is 4 years old I'd rather change my remote, which would cheaper, and because I love my current TV!!! Philips' Pronto are far too expensive, and I've discovered Logitech universal Harmony remote. The 1000 offers a touchscreen, advanced programing abilities, and not so bad design, although it's not comparable with the Beo5 one's. Does anyone there have a B&O / Logitech experience, if yes, is it positive or negative? Thank you for your feedbacks, Laurent. My installation : Avant 28 dvd+ Beocenter 2+ decoder+ Wii, linked with a Beolab 2000. Beocenter 2300, Beocenter 9300.
Well, thanx to Keith and his new page about 3party support for the Beo5, i am now contolling my Denon DVD-2500, a Prosonic tv in the kitchen and one panasonic VHS video in the upstairs livingroom. In the main room, there is a BV4, so no need for thirdparty there. From the BV4 STB a Sagem ICD-60 DVB-C box, and a Vista Mediacenter PC is controlled. However i can also controll the Sagem box and the Mediacenter directly from the Beo5 without the built in STB controller. I have 1(and a beo4) remote for all this. In the bedroom i have a MX4002 and the Denon DVD, and when i press DVD on the Beo5, the tv turns on, and the DVD start playing, and then it's just to use the Beo5 to controll the DVD with. And i must say, this is the coolest thing ever :) I now have the Channel icons in the kitchen also, so i dont have to remember the channel places on the old Prosonic tv :) Goooooooo Beo5 Gooooooo :) /Weebyx P.S Requires you have the configuration tool, and som knowledge on how to create the XML files for the Beo5 tool, and some way of lerning the 3party remotes, here is he Lintronic box very handy.

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
having posted several times to this thread, i need to offer an update. i have used a harmony 880 w/ one of my a/v setups that has no b&o kit. it has always been excellent after some initial config'ing. i have got a pretty good handle on using their software and i am 100% satisfied... so what to do next? let's see if i can get one to conquer my other a/v setup that is all b&o kit. first i added the devices and activities and tested them w/ existing 880 -everything worked first time out -perfect! so, i bought another 880 and programmed it exclusively for the b&o setup. took maybe 15 minutes (would have been 10 if i was sober). i have one remote that controls: cable box / avant / bs9000. i was able to set up the "activities" and i just push (1) button to watch tv / play the radio / play cd's / play itunes thru the aux. with a little more work, one can re-config the button displays and bring to the forefront only the most used functions. it really is a fantastic remote, esp for the money... the first one i bought retailed for us$299 and i paid us$109. today they retail for us$249 and i paid us$67 for the second one via ebay. with that said, i'd still like to have a beo5 some day, but, -i just don't think i would use it!

Re: Beo 5 or Logitech Harmony?
based on my experience, yes -i am sure the software (880 or 1000) is the same. but, it also may depend on what you are trying to control... (so far, i have not had any issues w/ equip controlled by a beo4). if you could list equipment/intentions, i would be happy to give you an idea what is possible. ++++edit++++ just checked... the software appears to be the same! ++++edit++++
