    Re: Perplexing BV7-40 PS3 problem

The PIM module is a converter in the TV, thst makes the DVI signal into something the LCD panel understands.

PIM = Panel Interface Modul. It converts DVI into LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling).

    Re: Perplexing BV7-40 PS3 problem

The answer, so far, appears to be 'yes', the software update to 4.01a does indeed fix the white flash issue with the PS3! You don't need a new PIM though - just the software update.

It take a fair while to run the software upgrade, so allow a couple of hours.

Credit must go to B&O Bath who have gone out of their way to offer a solution, send multiple engineers to sort out the issue and take the issue seriously.

    Re: Perplexing BV7-40 PS3 problem

Interesting, I've seen the same problem since I updated my Apple TV-Take2 - which is attached to a BV7-40 MkIII - and set it to 1080P (which was new in the updated software.) Same White flash down the left hand side towards the bottom. An intermittent white flash. I set it back to 720P and the problem has now gone. It must be something to do with 1080P content as my Sky (which is on 1080i) has no problems, nor does the inbuilt DVD player.

Must speak to Phil at B&O Reading to see if he can get the engineer to update my TV from 3.5 to 4.01. I'm also experiencing the loss of defaults on the stand position also. Seems like quite a number of bug fixes in the new firmware.

     Mark.

According to my dealer there were 17 bug fixes in version 4.0a. The stand position issue was one of them.

    Re: Perplexing BV7-40 PS3 problem

I can categorically say that the upgraded software fixes the white flash problem, after extensive testing early this evening. Not seen it once!

On a sidenote though, if someone here reported problems with the Apple TV using 1080p (and it appears to be a 1080p issue), it poses the question of how much 1080p testing did B&O do with the 1080p-based BV7-40? :)

    This is an interesting point.

Whilst one can accept that BnO cant provide support for all BRHD players the PS3 is the worlds best selling BR and combination player and yet, the £8000 BV7 cannot properly accept the signal without this 'upgrade' I can confirm that ALBA do more testing to ensure compatability than this.

Why should the purchasers of this 'exclusive product' be placed in this position in the first place?

I really don't see the problem in getting a firmware update, so they don't design the tv perfectly out of the factory but they are providing firmwares that fixes the problem. and they are comming to your house to do it for free.

And its a firmware UPDATE rather then an UPGRADE

355F, in fairness we could also say that at least B&O made the effort to come out and spend time evaluating the problem and updating my software. Would a Sony engineer do the same? Would a Sharp engineer? At least it can be updated.

This isn't meant to be an excuse for B&O not testing 1080p on the new 1080p-based MKIII, but at least the problem could be resolved without returning the set or sending back for 'repair' as you would with other TVs.

    Hello Moxxey!

Have you tried more testing with the new software (4.0)? Does the new upgrade work fine?

I have had my BV7-40 Mark III upgraded yesterday. I have just looked 10 minutes to Casino Royal on Blu-ray. It looked fine. The sad thing about this story is that B&O deny this issue/problem. But they solve it anyway. It is a little bit strange, I think.

The upgrade doesn't really do anything different (that I've noticed) apart from that fix. The so-called SD pixelisation fix doesn't seem to have been implemented, which is a shame :(

Someone (Beolab?) posted that the 4.01 sw would have a sharpness option within the customer service menu. It doesn't.
