I see people's frustration at present - I too would like to see a good remote control system which provides feedback in link rooms, and there is no doubt in my mind that B&O will be producing one... at some point. Don't expect it soon however, they've got heck of a lot on their plate at the moment and they're better off focusing on the present products than releasing new ones.

I agree with this. Using DVI tells me that the UI is generated entirely by the BM5. As such, all of the processing would be done in the BM5, making the BS5 a "dumb" display. Basically, the BM5 does all the work and the BS5 just shows it off and sends feedback control - much like a standard computer monitor that has a USB hub built into to connect your mouse and keyboard (a USB cable runs back to the PC box along with a separate display connection). There's nothing wrong with that, but it does indeed place serious obstacles in the way to offering a wireless version of the BS5 as it is currently constituted. There's nothing saying though that they couldn't offer a different wireless 2-way remote solution using a "smart" display. In that case, data could be transferred back and forth over the network and the remote could either run an optimized browser or host a custom app that transmits data back and forth (think Sonos' Controller or Logitech's Duet remote).

As for making it wireless, I don't see how this could work when DVI (the cable used) requires a bandwidth of 3.96 Gbit/second, and wireless technology still struggles to get up to 0.0054 GBit/second even at close range. DVI/HDMI transmitters are all large, incredibly power hungry and produce very stuttery, low-frame-rate images which would be useless for the BeoSound 5. On top of that.
The BeoSound 5 is not a remote control in the same way the BeoCenter 2 isn't a remote control.

You assume full frame rate HD continuous video transmission between the BM & BS5. However, if you consider what the BS5 actually needs then it amounts to not much more than track names and cover artworks, the rest of it could have been generated internally.

I do however admire you staunch defense.

(btw - you're quite correct about the BC2, it also plays CD's & DVD's)

The number of sites I have seen stating the BeoSound 5 is 'quite ridiculous' a remote control is plain embarrassing. I think these kind of sites in general tend to be highly inaccurate about pretty much everything and anything however.

I'm sorry Alex but what is the BS5 if not a "modern" day MCP that is tethered by cables. The BM5 can be whatever it can be when B&O actually come forward and tell us their future expansion plans for what is in essence a PC with Powerlink connections, costing what it does.

I'd love it to be ground breaking and original but I've yet to see any evidence.

I'll admit I haven't yet tried it but, regarding the MOTS algorithm, tonight I played "Afterglow" by Genesis. As much as I love the track, I don't want it to be followed by loads of songs of a similar sort. It may be much more clever than "Genius" or Party Shuffle, but it isn't going to change my life or the way I listen to my albums - as it stands it certainly isn't going to persuade me to part with thousands of squiddleys.

Maybe those that have everything (and I'm thinking BL9's or BL5's) will buy one but others who don't would be advised to plough their money into speakers rather than this.

Beosound 5 is featured in "Shortlist" a free men's magazine that is distributed in London on Tursdays.

They seem to like the look of the Beosound 5, and think it is going to be a success, say the BS5 is connected to a black box called "Beocontrol 5"! That shows the quality of the information in these free newspapers.
