BM5 and backup

Hi everybody,

I use the Beomaster5/Beosound5, and i make a backup of the Beomaster5 disk every month. Like i have organized the Beomaster disk in several directorties (it's easier to find something) and the back up is made on an external disk, i have no problem to localize my backup.

A friend is telling me: why do you not use the backup of the Beoplayer ?

Immediatly i try this way, i make it. But i remark that the files created are small (my beomaster is almost full ! ), why ?

Are the files created compressed ?

How to RIP WMA Lossless to BS5/BM5 on Mac.

Hey BS5/BM5 friends.

I'v use Mac the past 1/2 year, and like to rip CD's in WMA lossless to my BS5 because of tagging and since I'v don that the past 3 years. Since there is only BeoConnect to Mac, I'v got this solution if anybody misses that option.

1. I'v installed program "Parallels" on my Mac. It's a vitual mashine program that you can run in Mac either Coherent or as a open "window" in Mac.

2. Installed WIN7 in parallels.

3. Installed Beoplayer in WIN7.

That way I "boot" WIN7 and Beoplayer on my iMac as a regular program that I can close again when I'm not ripping CD's.

Works nicely I think. Now we only need B&O to improve Beoplayer on a lot of areas, but it seem like B&O are happy about it!

What iphone app is the best for BS5/BM5?

Hello everyone!

With the new - and in my opinion awesome - update for the BS5/BM5 that enables remote control/play from a iphone to the BS5 this also opens up a huge discussion on what app is the best to use together with the BS5?

I have tried several and for now I am settled with "iMediaControl" but in my opinion this has several flaws:

1. When you "surf" on the BS5 with the iphone/iMediaControl you cannot choose a song and add it to a "BS5"-playlist or "to be played after the song that currently are being played

2. You cannot play songs from the iphone on the BS5 - I know this might be that Apple has locked down this functionality so that people might only use Airplay - but still !

3. You cannot play any radio stations - or control these from the iphone to the BS5

Let the talk begin! Share you findings all ...!

Beosound 5 & Mac - Mini

Hi guys

Hopefully asking this in the right part of the forum, I was helping a friend who has the beosound 5 connected to bv4-65 with beosystem 3, it all works fine, but what I would like to do is get all the musi in iTunes to play on the beosound 5, do I need to copy it all over or is there a way to point it to the mac, I can see it in finder, but it keeps saying connection failed I have changed the password and inputed the new one but still no joy, hopefully someone can give me a few pointers.

Beosound 5 Encore - Guide how to rip / transcode / store files using a Mac

After several days of transcoding ( Format A to Format B ) and rebuilding databases on my Beosound 5 Encore and my NAS here is my “how to do it” thread so you don’t have to make all the mistakes by yourself.

Hardware used:

iMac running OSX Snow Leo

Western Digital WD Live NAS with Twonky Server

Beosound 5 Encore

Software used:

iTunes for initial rip

XLD for transcoding ( can rip as well )

Problem:

Convert Apple Lossless Files to a Beosound 5 Encore readable format and show everything correct on the Encore

Solution:

Section 1 – Ripping –

Take your physical CD and rip it with the encoder of your choice ( iTunes in my case ) in the highest possible format ( Apple lossless / ALAC in my case )

Once the rip is complete, check all ID3 tags if they meet your expectations, otherwise change them and including the cover artwork ( 500 x 500 pixel works best imho ). Make sure you select all tracks before adding the cover to the files, dragging the picture to the “drag picture here” area sometimes don’t work, I select all files and go into the “Information” tab in the context menu and add it there.

Note that if you listen to a song while editing the ID3 tag the information might not get stored correctly, so never listen to the file you edit!

Genres don’t work for me, so I created my own genres and just named the bands by their starting letter ( e.g. genre for Pink Floyd is “P”, Soundtracks have the genre “Soundtrack” and Compilations are filed as “Sampler” )

Once you have ripped your CD library consider this as your source for everything else and do a backup!

Section 2 – Transcoding –

Since the BS5encore cannot read Apple Lossless files (yes we complained a lot but I guess this won’t change) I decided to transcode my library to the 320 AAC format (Before you ask, I don’t like FLAC….) After testing several formats on my Lab5’s this was to me the format with the best sound/size ratio.

XLD is a free & fantastic tool to transcode large libraries without adding files to your iTunes library. Just do an initial setup, specify the output folder and drag the entire folder you want to transcode onto the XLD symbol.

It has a very good option that shows you the metadata before transcoding, so you can be sure all the information is correct and the cover is added, once you press go, the transcoding starts and from the Apple lossless format the encoding of a song just takes seconds... ( My lib of 16000 songs / 600 GB lossless files took 6 hours on a iMac i7 )

Section 3 – Fill up the NAS -

I use a Western Digital Live NAS which is very easy to setup if and has ( and this is not a standard ) a “power down” feature when not in use.

Since the NAS has an installed Twonky server, just go into the configuration menu of the NAS and stop the Twonky server while filling up the HDD for the first time.

Once this is done, let Twonky create its database by switching the Twonky server feature on, this also takes a while, be patient J

Section 4 – Beosound 5 Setup

Setup the BS5encore to find your access point and/or Twonky server ( explained in the manual ) and the system populates its internal library with all the contents of the Twonky server. This takes some time and some of the Album covers might not show up directly ( depending on the size of your database ) but if its correct in Twonky, it will show up correctly on the BS5e.

That’s about it, you’re done!

Unsolved Issues so far:

- Sorting of bands starting with “The” (e.g. The Beatles), you will find them under “Beatles, The” in the Beosound 5 Encore, as Twonky sorts the bands and ignores the word “the”.

- Legally downloaded mp3 tracks: Even after transcoding and manually changing/adding the ID3 tag information with XLD the files are listed under “Unknown” in the Twonky server and therefore in the BS5e as well.

Comments:

Besides the described issues this workflow worked for me, all the cover art is visible and the bands are grouped where they should.

I would like to know if is it possible to connect the Beomaster5 to a FTP server ?

In fact, being often outdoor, i am looking for a way to connect the Beomaster5 out the house (via my computer) !

I have heart spoken a software like Twonky Media server...and UPnP server ! Is it possible with the Bomaster5 ?

Please, i am expecting some explanations about a all of that !

Managing content on BS5/BM5 using a Mac

What is the best way to manage content on the BS5/BM5 using a mac? I can easily add content via Beoconnect, but how do I delete - directly on the mounted BM-Share$ or some other way? Want an easier way than having do any management via the BS5 itself.

Anyone with an early user report re Beo 6 WLAN and Beosound 5 ?

Scanning the posts, I don't see a lot re. how Beo 6 WLAN works in practice, i.e. how well it controls Beosound 5, where it meets and where it underruns expectations.

Still awaiting my Beo 6 reprogramming, however, if there are some "early adopters" your initial report is welcome.

is this Beosound just a glorified ipod? i have Beosound 9000/beolab 5's and I have an apple mini on back of my BeoVision 7- 40 with itunes....what would be the advantage of getting the Beosound5, apart from the fact its lovely to look at?

Hello!

My story: got my BM5 back with "new" mainboard; now I'm copying new music on the BM5 using BeoConnect 1.21.00 (from a MacBook pro 2008; snow leopard); everything worked fine - I erased the old files within "Finder" and copied the new files with BeoConnect

after dinner: copying works perfect - files are shown within finder BUT: NOT ON BEOSOUND5

within BS5 the "old" library is shown! If I go the music file (title) MOTS plays something different;

so: on the HDD (finder on the mac) the NEW files are shown

on Beosound5 the OLD files (library) is shown...

Any ideas?

Replaced BM5 Mainboad, but strange things happens!?

Hi and happy new year

I got the 2009 flaw Mainboard resulting in a dead BM5. My dealer have replaced it but I think its the same "old" type Mainboard - should I worry about that!?

I now experience that my Beosond 5 will not react on remote control, and it also comes to live when touching the selector dial (upper). I dismantled the BM5 and found that the mainboad was from 2008 and one screw on the mainboad was nok tightend. I tightend that one and put it all together and it reacted to the remote, but only for short.

Anybody experienced that. I will of couse bring it back to my dealer but I just want to hear your oppinion on this!

BeoMaster Question for the forum...

I am assume one could use a BeoMaster 5 with a BeoSystem 1 setup seeing that the BeoSound 5 Installation Guide lists BeoSystem 1 MKII (940x) & BeoSystem 1 MKIII (9431-9436) within the resolution table with output resolutions available when setting up screen resolution.

I am curious as to what connection and setting one need to utilize in order to do this. I assume that ones BeoSystem 1 (BS1) would have to have PC setup as one of it's external sources?

But then which connections one would utilize in connecting the BM5 to the BS1 setup? Or would the video just go straight out from the BM5 to the BV4?

Anyone shed some light on this setup?

Beosound 5/Beomaster recovery mode

I want to put my Beosound 5 in recovery mode to get it's software back to day 1. Does anyone know how to do this? Do I need to plug in a USB keyboard to select recovery mode when the system boots?

Beosound 5 - replacement advice

Hi everyone.

I have a bit of a quandry and am in the market for a bit of advice. I currently have a 2010 Beosound 5 and Beolab 9s. A system that I am pretty happy with but I have to sell the Beosound 5. I have 2 questions:

1) I'd like to keep the Beolab 9s as I love their sound and shape, but am not sure what non-B&O systems would connect to them. I understand that any system would need a pre-amp rather than a power amp but wonder how the Beolabs would know to wake up. Or would they always remain on even when the replacment hi-fi was turned off?

2) Where would be the best place to advertise my Beosound 5? I don't really want to try the ebay route as I'm the kind of person that'd get scammed and I don't want that.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

BS5/BM5 not starting

Hello!

My combo BS5/BM5 doesn't want to start up - on the screen it shows "Bang and Olufsen" and the red dot is flashing! The soft-reset button on the BM5 does not show any reaction...

The new software has been installed (automatically)

The system (in combination with a BS9000 as audiomaster) worked fine until I copied some music (Beonet) the day before; I had to earse some music files as well; everything was working fine - I always check if music and coverart are working.

Then I turned it off - the display went black but I could see that the background lighting was still on (I can not remember about the red light/dot); I tried a soft reset - no reaction; doing a hard reset (cutting power cord) the system went back again to: black display with red dot lighting - it seems to be fine but as I tried to listen to music nothing happend - again hard reset -> now as I wrote in the beginning...

anybody any idea?

As I think about a BS5 solution, I need your help please before being sure of what to choose.

Is it possible to connect a BS5 Encore to a BM5?

If it is, what are differences of such a set-up compared to a BS5 w/ BM5 set-up?

The CD Ripping device that can be connected to a BS5 is a good point for me, but is it possible to connect this device to the BS5 Encore too?

BBC N.Radio not working with BT Infinity.

Hi,

I've recently switched form O2 to BT Infinity and since then I have a problem when listening to BBC radio stations on a BeoSound 5. They keep loosing connection, buffering or just not playing at all (even though it says it's playing in PC mode). Listening to the same stations on a PC works flawlessly so it must have something to do with the source that is used with the BeoSound for radio feeds, rather than the internet connection itself, which is causing a problem when used with Infinity.

The problem goes way if you connect using a different ISP. My local dealer has confirmed that my equipment is fine and has said they have another customer who uses Infinity who has exactly the same problem.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone else has noticed this and warn people that switching to Infinity may mean you can't listen to BBC radio stations. Hopefully as B&O are now aware of the problem it will be sorted.

Just got the Beringer UCA222, and connected to Beomaster5 via USB - streaming sound via Airport Express.

The problem is that in the beginning of the streaming process, the sound "stutters", like digital stutter- if i restart the song a couple

of times it goes away.

i tryied to connect my Iphone aswell, but the problem remaims. Has anybody experienced the same ?

I am thinking of getting a different soundcard, mayby ESI U24.

export a Itunes playlist to BS5 Encore

does anyone know whether it its possible to export itunes playlists to BS5 Encore. I have converted my Itunes playlists to .m3u format which is recognized by twonky media server they are, however, not showing up on the BS5 Encore !

MOTS wont finish

I received my BS5 last Friday (4th), and I must admit, it is a fantastic music system, it has replaced my BS6500.
However, the MOTS took quite some time to finish, or, almost to finish. I have about 17.000 tracks on the BM5 and it took about 1 week to get to 96% finished, but the last 4 days it has not progressed any further.

Does anyone know what I can do to get the MOTS to 100%?

The MOTS does work, though.

Beosound 5 Shows Multiple Albums and Artwork for Same Album

Hello, I am new here and recently purchased the BeoSound/BeoMaster 5. I had my music loaded by the retailer and when it was setup at my home I have noticed that I have multiple albums with multiple artwork for the same album. Example: Barbra Streisands album called duets shows 20 albums with one song each and not a single one contains all songs. As I am new I am only using beoplayer to view, edit, and add music. Is there a way to correct this using beoplayer? I can see all my music from BeoMaster 5 in beoplayer but not sure how to correct the problem. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated. Oh and I should note that I am not a great techie so easy would be great. Thanks all!!

New Dilemma - Editing song track tags on same album in some instances one song is uneditable - any ideas

As I am now able to clean up files on the BM5 and solve the muliple album artwork on the BS5 I now have discovered a new issue. If I have an album with say 13 tracks/files in some instances I can edit the tags on all tracks/files but one. Not sure why. Does anyone have any ideas?
