The BC7700 was a unit that would work with the B&o IR code converter (8089017).

Certainly not! But, I guess the intersection of the vintage / modern stuff enthusiasts is rather small after all - so you may well be the first one to even think about this problem.

I don't personally have any of this kit, but I tried to work out the BC7700 service manual. It's not complete with the parts lists and the internals of the remotes don't show much detail. Anyway, both the MCP and the Beocenter have a crystal oscillator working at 400 kHz. In the Beocenter, the output of that goes through an on/off control gate and a 1:10 divider. So, I'm pretty sure the IR carrier frequency from the Beocenter to the MCP is 40 kHz, and so there's a good chance Beo5 could work it.

There might be a catch with the carrier from the remotes to the Beocenter - which you actually need - being different. The schematic doesn't help here, as the receiver uses a TDA4060 preamp IC, which will work anywhere between 0-100 kHz. There's a tunable LC circuit before it taking care of the selectivity, but there's no mention of the coil value so I can't calculate its usable range.

Enough with the technical gibberish - in conclusion I think this would be well worth attempting But, with this documentation there's no way getting around that you need first some other way of capturing the codes.

I do not have the MCP7700 only the BeoCenter Terminal, so if I don't get two way then I am not missing anything in my opinion. Unfortunately, I do not have great experience with a code capturer so I was hoping someone had gotten around to capturing the codes already. I guess I may be a dying breed with an old classic as the BC7700.

It does not use Beo4 codes so you will need to have the codes analysed. However I would imagine this is possible - if you have the original remote it will help. The problem will be that you will not get two way control, unlike with the the MCP7700.

The 7700 is a splendid machine - right up there with the 8000 system but rather more practical.

I know nothing of this product, but if it uses standard Beo4 codes, it should be possible to make a setup.

If the IR signal is modulated with a frequency of 30 to 40 kHz it should be possible for the Beo5 to send them.

Worst case is if the modulation frequency is 455 kHz and the signal is different from Beo4 - I don't think the Beo5 can produce this kind of signal.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone gotten around to capturing older codes yet?? I have a BeoCenter 7700 I would love to control from my Beo5. Don't get me wrong I like the old school remote for it, but I am sick of multiple interfaces.
