Many thanks for your reply - it's greatly appreciated.

I'm not too concerned with the current IR response of the BS3200 with repsect to the IR interference. We'll be moving house in the coming months and I'll be placing the BS3200 a couple of metres away from the screen, hopefully avoiding this issue altogether. Nevertheless, it's interesting to see how strong the influence of the screen is.

But it's reassuring to know from your comments that the Beo5 IR strength is greater than the Beo4, and that it's control of the plasma screen will be as it is with the Pioneer remote. So on that basis, I'll be going forward with my plan to incorporate the Beo5 into the set-up.

Matt,

As you have noted all Plasma screens creates IR (Infrared ) Interference to varying degrees, however more modern products have incorporated various techniques to minimise their effects which were not considered in the days when, say the BS3200 was designed.

Also, the Beo5 has an overall signal strength which is greater than the Beo4.

The IR carrier frequency used to control B&O products is 455 Khz, but the carrier frequency for your Pioneer is 38Khz and uses a different transmitting diode in the Beo5.

So, controlling your Pioneer screen with the Beo5 should be exactly the same as using the Pioneer's own remote control.

Controlling your BS3200 should be improved over the Beo4 mainly because of the increase signal strength.

Hi All,

I'm considering a Beo5 purchase and would like to use it to control my Pioneer plasma screen (PDP-C509A), amongst other items around the house. I'm interested to hear if anyone has gone down this particular path and if so, what issues (if any) you may have come across?

I'm specifically concerned with IR interference from the screen and whether this affects the Beo5 when attempting to control the screen? I currently have my BS3200 sitting quite close to the Pioneer and there is clearly an effect from IR interference when using the Beo4 remote - i.e. the Beo4 must be pointed directly at the BS3200 for it to respond when the screen is on. When it's off, this is not necessary.
