Yes, one spends too much time on this ;-) but it's fun as well. I also have the RemoteControl II software. Did you try to send the code through the RemoteControl II software from the Windows PDA?

Hi Frank,

Yes, I did, and it works if I press twice quickly. Maybe it doesn't work with the Beo5 because it needs the Countinous Mode to work, and it can't be marked in the Config Tool.

Hi Frank,

I am not a programmer, so I do what I can learn from the Keith's Help file of the XML Creator Tool. I found a .pdb file from Remote Central web site. As I didn't find a SW to learn the .pdb file, I took my old old Palm M125 and I did install the pdb file. The Roomba works fine if I send the orders from my Palm, so I tried to learn codes with my PDA. Is in the RemoteControl II where I got the HEX codes with blank spaces.

In another way to see if the codes work, I took a Philips Universal Remote to learn the codes from the Palm. And the Roomba also works if I use the Philips to send the orders.

As you can see, I am working too hard to make a xml file for the Roomba

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply, but I don't understand what you mean. I think you changed the large values in the xml file, but I can't make one xml file because the Configurator SW of Lintronic doesn't recognize the HEX file with blank spaces. I tried to remove the spaces, but it says it is not a good HEX code.

If you know what I am doing bad, I will apreciate your help.

Regards

Hi Quim,

sorry I made the wrong connection there, I thought you are a bit further down in the process. So your input to the Lintronic tool is Hex code in Pronto format in the form "0000 1111 2222 ..."? And the answer from the tool is "Format not supported"? Did you make sure you have no additional characters like carriage return in your code that you paste? From my tests it should not matter if you have the blanks or not, but extra characters produced errors. Maybe you can post your codes, so that the experts can have a look at it? Where did you get the code from?

Cheers,
Frank

Re: Roomba

beo4me:

Hi

I own one, the model 560. Its totally worth. I tried to get the codes to use the Beo5 to control it but still no success. I have problems capturing the IR codes. I get an HEX file with some blank space between group of codes. If i can do it, I will post in the Beo5 section.

Hi Quim,

I was having problems with blank space as well. There seems to be a maximum number problem. Please see my thread here. I have fixed by simply setting the large values to 32000 and it worked. Maybe that solves your problems as well?

I don't know about the Beo5 but was thinking of getting a Roomba myself. Do you own one? Which model do you have? Are they worthwhile?

We've had one (or actually several, more on that later) at the office. To keep it short, basically it works great. If you don't have fluffy carpets, furniture that is just barely high enough for the Roomba to get under there, or something else that is likely to get it stuck, it really does a good job at cleaning all by itself. And watching it do that can keep a group of engineers entertained for hours (which is why it won't really save that much time ) You may have to rethink your furniture placement a little so it has access to all dust nests.

The bad part is durability. I think we went through three units and now the last one is working, but the battery is dead (I suppose the charger is too stupid and cooks the battery if you leave it plugged in). Also, being on the more industrial side of office work, the poor Roomba had to work hard picking up metal objects etc. instead of just some fluff. I believe in a home environment it would survive much better, but it doesn't give a very sturdy feel.
