Dirt catcher? Hmmmm, aren't B&O vintage stuff all dirt catchers. My F1000 looks brilliant with these aluminium edges, much better then the original!

I think a black plastic strip would be the solution because the bench will be painted in two colors. Black and dark gray. Or a thin strip of wood that is glued with wood dowels.

Just dont tell Graham about it, you are manipulating original B&O items. If an aluminum edge, in my opinion it has to be flush with the surface and not upon the surface, its a dirt catcher. Transparent plastic is very diff. to paint.

Johnny please save yourself some trouble, filler or glue or plastic padding, sand to smooth, paint, sand, paint. There are no short cuts that works

Other option is using L shaped aluminium. Have been using that on my F1000's. Protects the edges and save you lots of work!

Thanks for the tip. Epoxy is probably a good choice. I will paint the bench, as a suggestion, in two colors. Black and dark gray. Silver Metallic's not my favorite color.

You can use a filler (epoxy) from the car industry, it will get very hard and you can sand it till the surface is smooth. Normal filler will not hold. When you use the colour black, it needs a real flat surface with out dents etc etc. On black you will see every scratch/dent because of the light refelection.

Do you have considered a metalic silver finish?

There were many good suggestions. You seem to be on the same track. Now I have many good suggestions to consider. The bench will be renovated this summer and then the bench will have a different color. It will be painted in black.

What about stripping of the old veneer from the sides and aplying a new white thick fineer, plus having a paint job!

I think with an angled piece of stainless steel or aluminium it will be harder to get a nice fit than the use of a filler and sandpaper. If you take some time for it you will get a nice result. And if you go to a good store they can probably supply you with the right colour paint in a spraycan.

Yes, that's probably a good idea. How about my suggestion?

To get a Aluminu angle look good, you will have to get it level to the surface, that means, machine the surface down where you want to place it, if you dont have the tools for it, imposible, if you have them, difficault. One mis and you will have to do the whole front/edge.

Best and easiest is filler, sand, mask of, spray paint, sand very fine, spray paint, and one time more if wanted.

Instead of filler, you can mix wood glue with 50 % wood dust (fine saw dust) it will give a harder edge.

The key to the finish is sanding, sanding, sanding, finer, finer, finer
