After about 3 or 4 minutes, the set suddenly went quiet.
I quickly pulled the power plug but while reaching for the plug I did notice that the dial was still
lit and the magic eye still indicated a strong station.
Hmmm....

A double check using a nearby Beomaster proved that the radio station I was listening to was
now only transmitting silence.
Pheew...
Why does something like this happen at a time like this ?

In the Uk that's what we call "sods law" Martin.

I plugged the JET back in and about 2 minutes later, the radio host apologized and the programme
continued.
The JET played on for a couple of hours while I cleaned the repairshop up a bit and took the first quick
look at a beautiful Mini 513 that arrived here a couple of days ago for repairs.

Those who didn't qualify :

- Two fuse holding clamps - oxidated (The fuse glass shattered so the fuse is not pictured)
- Two resistors - one well done, one medium rare
- Two capacitors - one disabled and one ready to go off anytime
- Two dial lamps - switch on and it will become darker
- One ceramic capacitor - can be used as a 620 Ohm resistor with a phenomenal power rating

Bottom and rear covers fitted.
The JET 606 was then powered up and its wonderful warm sound enjoyed.

The polarity does not matter much if you use a dipol arial but I chose to go
with one red and one black.

With the last knob fitted the chassis was now ready to mount back in the cabinet.
The leads were soldered back onto the speakers at the baffle and the chassis secured using the
original screws that were cleaned off rust and dirt.

The built-in FM antenna has the form of two large pieces of alu foil glued to the inside of the
cabinet. Leads soldered to the foil goes down to the antenna socket at the rear of the chassis.
This gives the owner the choice of using either the built-in antenna or an external.
The plugs on these leads are missing. They should be of the good old heavy-duty spade type, either
two red or one red and one black.

It's a bit difficult to say why P-valves and E-valves were mixed.
They are very similar but still there are differences.
The PCC85 does not demand as high as anode voltage as f.e. ECC85 which
may make the P-valve the most attractive for this set.
The heater voltage is also a little different but since the dropper resistor
compensates for this, that cannot be the reason.
For the output valve, the anode current and therefore the choice of output transformer
could have called for the PL84 rather than EL84. Worth noting that the P/E L84 valves are rated at
a whopping 12 Watts max output power, where B&O conservatively rates this set at 4,5 Watts.
That output valve should be good for many years in this job.

Thinking of the FM front-end E/P CC85 valve, I've replaced far more E-valves than P-valves
in my time but probably far from enough to produce any valid statistical outcome.

It's not as unusual to see as you may think and certainly, it's very common for a
lot of B&O models around this time to mix these valves.

This JET cabinet is now only waiting for the chassis.

The now empty cabinet got a once-over with a little polish to make it shine again.
