Hi and happy new year.

Short status reg. above problem with my CD5500: after some hours of work the *klonk* noise is still there.

I found out that switch and CPU for control of the loader speed seem to work fine.
On the mechanic side during load the CD-mechanism and / or its supporting frame really collides with the base plate of the instrument, when the frame with the CD-mechanism is moving downwards.

This cannot be the intention as there is a stop blok (art.-code 3010007), which should define the end position of the frame.

I suspect the rubber holders of the CD-mechanism (art.-code 3333015 and 3333016) after more than 20years to have settled a bit so that the CD-mechanism moved downwards. The settling is so large that it is not possible anymore to correct it by the 4 adjustment screws for the mechanisms height adjustment.

However since the player in any other aspect is working fine, I will not try to exchange the rubber holders, risking to damage the flex foil of the CD-mechanism in doing so.

Thank you all for your suggestions and help provided, especially nitro2.

Thank you all for your replies!
Nitro2, you have a pm.

I dissambled the player again to check the mechanics.

The aluminium-tray where the CD is put in runs free through the front all the way.
Also the bracket above the CD-mechanism (the one keeping the clamper to keep the CD on the CD-mechanism) is fixed properly on both sides. So no contact between tray and clamper neither.

In "play-position" the tray is almost even to the front cover, maybe 0.5mm inside, not more.

I removed the CD-tray as well as the front. Then by just pushing the supporting frame of the CD-mechanism (the one fixed on the Beogram chassis by some levers) the *klonk* noise can be reproduced. I can see that at the front side of the instrument the supporting frame of the CD-mechanism collides with the base plate of the instrument, when the CD-mechanism moves down during load.
I did not succeed in identifying a geometric feature defining a controlled end-position for this frame neither on the frame itself nor the base plate.

Thanks Bogener, after your mail I tried the height adjustment of the tray at the bottom side of the instrument (2 Torx screws). The height of the tray is just fine, but the noise during eject of the tray still there.
The 2 stoppers defining the end-positions in combination with the 2-way switch inside are OK.

However I noticed, that at the base plate, quite close to the “coil-wheel” for the wire moving the tray there is a part of a toothed wheel. On this part there seemed to have been a rubber part once. How did this part look like, can there be any connection to the failure?

In the meantime I am wondering, if maybe the mechanics are OK, but the electronics are malfunctioning? Is there a velocity control of the tray, since the coil wheel is checked by a opto-coupler?

Regards, Grüße and mange hilsener
Frank

Re: Beogram CD 5500 loading mechanism

Is the tray even to the cover or 2-3mm more inside?

The "stopper" inside has a rubber cover and this material does not last forever and suddenly disappears... causing also this noise, because the tray moves wider than original.

It can be adjusted by a 6-edge inbus tool from the underside... and the noise is gone.

Re: Beogram CD 5500 loading mechanism

Most likely the klonk will be the thicker-part of the tray touching the case of the player .

Second mail and already a question.

Some days ago I bought a CD 5500 via ebay.

First functionality check of the instrument was promising: CD tray went OUT and IN without any noise. Then I connected it to a BeoSound Ouverture via 7-pole-DIN-cable. Worked just fine. CD played and the Beogram CD could be contolled via the Beo 4 terminal and the Ouverture.

Then I decided to disconnect the player again and to clean the top of the player from some dust / grease – not taking note of the CD-tray moving out while I tilted the player to the front.

The CD tray touched the floor…

So after cleaning the outside I connected the Beogram again and ….but now every time the tray comes out during CD-loading I hear a deep “klonk” just after the CD-tray is moved about 2cm out.

When the CD is loaded and the tray moves in, no noise can be heard. CD can be played without any problem.

I am a bit nervous that I did some de-adjustment during the cleaning procedure while the CD-tray moved out and touched the floor.

I removed the cover of the Beogram CD and took a closer look. When the CD-tray moves from the play-position out to the load-position the following seems to happen: the CD tray moves about 2cm forwards. The supporting frame of the CD-mechanism (the frame which is fixed on the chassis of the Beogram CD by 4 levers) then “falls down” and touches the chassis of the Beogram CD resulting in the above “klonk”.

Does anybody know what to do?

Readjusting the height of the CD-mechanism relative to the frame around the mechanism by the 4 adjustment screws does not seem to help. (I tested and just hope that I got the same position of the screws afterwards as before).

Lubrification of the guide for the steel pin of the CD-tray with some "heavy" silicone grease probably is not the solution either?

Is there any damping material between the chassis of the Beogram CD and the supporting frame of the CD-mechanism, which can be hardened and broken?
