@Blackrix, I think you are right. I will see what the insurance pays out, I will claim for the whole Beosystem as with out the matching Beomaster, its useless. I doubt B&O South Africa will be interested in repairing it, I can try. I really liked the 6500. At least now I know that it isn't just a minor problem.

I think you have a broken microprocessor in your BeoMaster. I have been able to fix a BeoMaster 6500 which was struck by lightning, the tuner and microprocessor were broken. I have managed to get the microprocessor repaired (had to replace a lot of components) and I think I replaced the tunerboard. I think you might have to get the BeoMaster repaired, but if it is possible for you to get it serviced in South Africa, I don't now. Also the original parts are no longer available, you might have to search Ebay for the parts (that's what I had to do to get the parts).

Everything was unplugged from the electricity apart from the tv. The unplugged dvd player that was connected to the tv which was still connected to the Satellite Dish was was hit. Surge travelled from dish(damaged) to the tv (damaged) then through the Video in socket to the dvd (damaged) to the Aux socket of the Beomaster.

Thanks, I located the CPU and the fuse looks fine from looking at it. Unfortunately I am not able to test it. The unit clicks when plugged in but no standby light. I think its something more complex than I am able to diagnose.

I only found one fuse? It was fine and the power supply gets warm. There seems to be blackened components on the top board...I'm guessing thats where the problem is. I'm hoping the insurance will pay for all the replacements but it will be quite a mission to replace the Beomaster.

The top board is the tuner. Was the antenna unplugged during the storm?

Yes. But there is no real need to solder it again.

The round black box is the fuse. The zener diode is in the upper left corner, ZPD 5.6V.

Is the cpu in a metal box that one has to unsolder to open? Found another fuse near the power supply which was fine.

There is a second fuse inside the cpu metal box. Round, black or brown, 1 Ampere. It's responsible für the 5V power for the cpu. Check it, it will blow by overvoltage over 5.6V... there is a zener diode behind it limiting the voltage. The zener diode will also blow.

Sorry to hear this has happened. The problem with lightning is that the damage is never the same. So it could be a small repair but is could also be a big problem. Have you already checked the fuses? Are there any burned tracks on the PCB's?

Beomaster 6500 lightening damage

My Beomaster 6500 was damaged by a massive storm we had including all tv's, decoders, Satellite dish, Dvd recorder and players, house alarm.....list goes on and on!!

I have unplugged all my B&O but I hadn't realised that the 6500 was connected to a dvd player which is connected to a tv which was left plugged in. So the power supply is fine but the surge went through the aux of the Beomaster and now its dead. Not even the standby light comes on. Rest of the Beosystem is fine. I was wondering if its a small repair or will I need a new Beomaster? Just a bit depressed as this model was never sold in my country therefore I will have to get one from overseas if I have to get a replacement. I didn't know it could pass through an audio cable, burn a dvd player and then the Beomaster!!
