So guys, after resoldering and good cleaning the flux after that (thanks for the advice, tournedos), the set is working and now I hope it will not fail in future.

The circuit board might benefit from an all around clean anyway. It may not be obvious, but if it has received any moisture in the past, it might have leakage currents and/or bad connections that do all kinds of funny things.

On the other hand, there's a good chance that your resoldering has fixed that already.

If the problem returns, it might be useful to put an ammeter inline with the battery and observe the current consumption of the remote. If two more or keys appear down to the microcontroller, it might not send anything but will be running all the time, which should show a clear increase in current. It should be practically zero when the remote is idle.

Thanks for the advices, but it doesnt seem to be the problem, because the first thing i`ve done was to remove the band and clean the contacts. They was in very good condition.

The curious thing is, that when I inserted back the battery this morning, it was working fine. I`ve just resoldered every solder on the PCB and for now it`s OK, but im expecting it to fail soon.

I`ll write back what will happen.

If one of the buttons is sticking, won't the green LED be constantly lit?

I would guess one of the buttons may be sticking on. I would completely take it apart and clean it.

Problem with Terminal 5000

Hi guys,

I have problem with my Terminal 5000, that came with my MCP 5000 from ebay. When I inserted the battery (a 9V one) in it for the first time, it worked fine, but when i checked it after trying the MCP (about 15 mins later), it was dead. I measured that the battery`s voltage was 8,5V when inserted, otherwise it is 9,5 , which means that something is loading it. Than I saw that several seconds after conecting the baterry the remote is working fine, then it suddenly dies, which makes me think that the IC (ETL9411) and the oscilator are fine.

So any ideas?
