Now it works!

I am crossing my fingers that it will keep working for another 9 years. If not, I shall bother you again with my questions.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and for your advice!

Do make sure you contact someone with B&O experience,as although the basic chassis is Thomson, there are suble differences with the B&O version.

Re: Beovision MX 4500

It's a very common problem, had it several times on some MX5000/3000. Bad electrolyth capacitors, they need replacement after this long time.

Very common are also bad solders on the mainboard.

Usually it takes 2-3 hours to rework the boards.

As long as there were not burning sounds or smoke, it's pretty easy to repair. It's a Thomson ICC5 mainboard, should be well known all over the world, probably built several million times...

A little guide for this mainboard is in the workbench section in the MX5500/3500 workshop.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have contacted the local B&O in Edinburgh and they recommended the engineer from Perth. I am reluctant to pay the £95 call out fee before I have any idea if it is worth doing it. Has anyone ever come across this symptom before to advise if it is likely to be a major fault or something small!?

Thank you once again for taking the time,

It could be as simple as a single component so I would tend to find a local TV repair shop and take it there. In the North East, the service department has been split off from the B&O stores and seems to offer excellent value for money and a lot of expertise. Terry has worked for B&O for many years and seems willing to tackle most things.

Beovision MX 4500

Hi there!

I have had the privilege of owning a Beovision MX 4500 for the past nine years without any problems. However, recently, the TV refuses to turn on. When I attempt to do it, it produces a 'click' and then turns itself off.

I am not sure if this is a common problem, if it is an expensive problem or one that can be sorted out by a DIY'er. I do know that to call out an engineer will cost £95 before the cost of any spares or labour. I also do know that the cost of a 2nd hand replacement TV (like-for-like) is in the region of £400, hence my wondering of an easy DYI solution.

I am new to this forum and will certainly benefit from your advice.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read and hopefully assist.
