I have been talking to Tim about trying to restore a Beocord 5000 - I have two of the things (and a BC 4000). He sent me the link as above. He also, rather cruelly, suggested " Two Beocord 5000s, that's one too many, just like having one of them... ",

I still think they're beautiful, but I'm beginning to resign myself to looking at them rather than using them in anger.

Yes, but Beocenter 4000's aren't too plentyful and the deck used in them is doing a fine job as part of one of
the better radio/cassette combo Beocenters. A wonderful machine in its own right.

I also like the fact that this Beocord 5000 modification seems to be fully reversible.

He told me he was doing this - sacrilige! Essentially turning a Beocord 5000 into the tape player out of a BC4000. Still wouldn't trust it mind you!

Looks like one of our good friends has come up with what seems to be a
superb and fairly simple solution to the tape eating problems with the early Beocord 5000's.
I don't dare to think how many of these wonderful design pieces were
discarded because of their tendency to break tapes.

Worth having done if you own one and definitely worth a read, even if you don't:
