I'd be looking for some guidance on how to correct these issues and particularly someone with specific knowledge on how to repair the CDM1 mechanism.

I have had the lens cleaned and checked.

Which particular caps would be the ones to examine and replace?

All the elctrolitics on the PCB

Which joint is the one to check on the main PCB?

All in the PCB, expecially the ones that connect the upper and lower surface

How would one check and correct the height/mech issues?

First you need the service manual and then an oscilloscope

All is explained inside the service manual.

Anyone know of someone in the USA that does calibrations of this mechanism?

Each electronics center service could do this

Is the pickup separately available for replacement and is it actually available? Who would do this in the USA?

The pickup is no longer available but it is present in a lot of CD players.

The laser pickup is the last part to substitute.

The first thing is to check the HF eye pattern using an oscilloscope.

Cause of this malfunction could be:

- Not clean pickup lense

- Defective caps

- Dry joint on the main PCB

- Incorrect turntable height / mech problems

- Mechanical "stiction" on the swing arm

- Incorrect calibrations

- Defctive laser pickup

The sequence shows the check to execute on the player.

It will not always read discs. About 50% of the time, it will attempt to read or play a disc and then just fail after a number of seeks. 50% of the time it will work just fine.

I noticed in some posts in the past, that there were options for repair of older systems that used the CDM1 drive mechanism. Could someone post or send me some info of places that repair the old CDM1?
