The caps were about $18 each, IIRC, but I can't guarantee that.

The boards were AOK, and I did not have to repair them - stands to reason - the S45's have been in my (careful) possession since new!!

I have the so called inferior speakers. I think they sound good after their new caps and re-foam.

I'm looking to get some S45-2, type 6312. Can anyone tell me what to look out for with regard to this model of speakers?

Yachadm, did you have to get a new board when you did your caps? And how expensive were they?

Dillen, can you elaborate on the changes to the crossovers you mentioned?

Beovox S45 and S45-2 are closely related.
S45 has a composite backside with 4 fittings for mounting, S45-2 has a flush wooden black back with two
threaded holes for the wallmount/floorstand.

Furthermore, there are several different versions of the S45 and S45-2.
Different tweeters used throughout production in both type 6302 and 6312 also required
changes to the crossovers accordingly.
The woofer, however, was the same all the way.
All original S45/S45-2 woofers had rubber surrounds that seems to never deteriorate,
often found with factory talcuum powder still on them.
Wonderful woofer and speakers and despite their differencies, all versions are quite similar sounding.

The Beovox S45 (80's 2-way type 6427) had a quite unique (6,4ohms) woofer with
foam surround and was a completely different, and in most ears inferior, speaker.

The sticker on the back shows S45, type 6302.

Also, the woofer has a cloth surround, not foam - maintenance-free since 1977, when I bought them new!

IIRC, the S45-2 had foam surrounds (but I may be mistaken).

I did my 4 S45's with 16uF Auricaps - see the picture. Expensive, but I never regretted it.

Yeah, thats right.

I was thinking of upgrading to a longer lasting type of the plastic variaty. I hear these are larger than the original alloy types. Shouldn't be too much hassle to fit, I will have to enlarge the hole in the cardboard holder/circuit board.

If I remember correctly, it's only one single capacitor in each cabinet.
But that doesn't mean that a kit isn't available.

Send a PM (Start a conversation) to Martin (Username Dillen) and he will be able to sort you out with a capacitor kit and instructions.

You don't really need a circuit diagram as you are just cutting the old ones out and soldering the new ones in their place.

After my refoam I feeling confident in having a go at replacing the capacitors on my S45 - 6427's.

Only thing is which ones to go for. I thought it would be a case of simply replacing what I had, but oh no. I have just read a thread on the subject, and to tell you the truth, my head hurts.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in laymans terms please?

Also, does anyone have a circuit diagram for my speakers?
