the lamps of the older B&O hardware are a little bit special. I really dont know wether these were also used in your BM3000 since i have no manual of the BM3000 or the hardware, but the ones in my old BM1001 have this spec: 14V 40mA. B&O has used them a lot.

Test a second one on a regulated power supply, probably you will measure the same values.

They are not identical to the little lamps in your car, they consume way to much power.

Martin

P.S.: the wooden case looks beautiful, like new.

Re: Beomaster 3000 Rejuvenation

After a couple of days of use and a bit of contact cleaner sprayed on the switches the Beomaster now functions perfectly. All of the switches work easily and there is no scratching from the sliding controls. When I get round to it I will get a cap kit and have a go at replacing the caps. The only thing that doesnt work is the green "stereo" light. Does any one know how you go about changing/repairing the lamps?

Re: Beomaster 3000 Rejuvenation

Thanks, it wont be perfect (there are a couple of chips in the veneer on the side panel) but hopefully it will hone my skills and make me brave enough to tackle other projects. What I needed was something that I could practise on and would be fixable by some one with little knowledge but lots of enthusiasm. I recently came across exactly what I was looking for in a Beomaster 3000 that had all the usual faults but nothing too fatal wrong with it. It was left in a garage for 20 years after the volume got stuck on full. On opening it up, I found loads of dead creepy crawlies and that the volume slider had one of the small red pegs broken off that holds the slider. The peg was in there still so a bit of super glue fixed that and after a bit of playing with it is starting to come back to life. The switches are improving, now most of them work and when I get some contact cleaner I will give them all a good squirting.

But in the last couple of days I decided to have a go at the case. Here is how it was when I got it.

And after a bit of cleaning, sanding and Danish oil it is starting to look rather nice.

I will give it some new capacitors at some point when I am feeling brave and will also clean up the Beogram 1200 that came with it.

When done it will make a really nice looking system.
