They suggested they could BOOST the Tv and it will either work or completely fail. The Tv is now back home and picture is like new. I'm over the moon on this one. There is no gurantee how long it will last but it shows fine. They told me they boosted it cleaned it and re-aligned all which cost me £85. Thank you all for you advice & help. This may help others before they try and sell it on ebay for a £100 !

Re: AVANT 28" 50hz White areas looking pink!! There's a sequence of keys to hit on the Beo 4 that brings up the service counters - hours the tube has been used appears here. Somewhere on the service counter thread is a guide to what's an average lifetime for an Avant tube, so you can see if yours is under/over the average lifespan.

Re: AVANT 28" 50hz White areas looking pink!! Sounds as though the tube in you Avant need replacing. Quite a common problem now with older Avants. Replacement just is not worth it as I believe it cost somewhere in the region of £600-700.

My 1996 Avant is still in pristine condition picture showing fine too except recently noticed that the white areas on screen are looking pink. I have tried turning colour down. Not much difference. Any advice would be most welcome. I dont't really want to change my set, what could i possibly replace it with the sound system alone on this TV is exceptional. Thanks..
