Update on "fuses"; Firstly there is no voltage on the capacitors, secondly I cannot find two resistors but there are two markings (R3& R4) where you suggest. I can get no reading on them by using the holes through to the PCB, would this confirm an open cicuit or blown fuse? It is along time since I could read the values even with a chart but I tried a couple of others to check the meter and got readings of 5.6 and 1.2 on two nearby.If they are blown what would be the cause and what should I look for ? You say 40volts but I only read 29.5v or 58volts on the output side of the transformer.Input is 230v .The other tappings, green wires going to T4 read 10.5volts. Does any of this make sense?

Martin, very enlightening. In my stupidity/ignorance I was looking for a glass tube with a wire inside !! This gives me hope and would point to no sound but all other functions working?

Top off tonight for another poke around.

The "fuse" for the amp are 2 resistors parallel to the power relay ... 10 Ohm each. They should load the caps with a lower current and in case of a defect, they can be blown like a fuse.

First check the 2 caps, there should be around =+/- 40V. If missing, either the power relay is bad or not activated... or the amp is bad.

If the T4A fuse had blown there would be no functions at all so that isn't the likely problem.

The capacitors Die Bogener is referring to are the 2 very large ones which sit horzontally in a seperate plastic holder above the main PCB I think.

Thanks, that was quick. Unfortunately I have checked the voltage after the fsue (T4?)the one beside the big caps. Does 10.8v sound right? Also the other tapping is giving 28v. I have seen reference to overload in respect to the speakers but as they were on tickover I cannot see that as the cause.

Hi,

check the voltage on the 2 big 10.000uf capacitors, ~40V . Sounds like a blown fuse for the amp.

Hello all, a bit new to this so be patient. My 6500 has gone all quiet although every light,bell and whistle is working and it is still talking to the MCP. Mute relay is OK, I think, and I tried the second speaker conections, as well as seperate speakers. No smell of overheating,no scorch marks any where. Should the fan spin on switch on, or is there a thermostat built in? It kicks but that's all. Anything I can do with a screwdiver, a meter and a soldering iron?
