I was in contact with the current owner of the BC. He suggests I replace the belt for the turntable and to the cassette deck. I recon you have those in stock? :)

Sometimes easy things are so hard....!

I thought I tried to lift off the platter but seems that I didn't! The whole turntable assembly is so springy that I though it would break if I put too much force into it.... Well, thanks, this will ease the repair a lot. I will get into this repair again next week as the deck is not currently at my home.

My friend is selling vintage audio things and he gave this BC to me for repair and as the turntable worked otherwise fine, except for one or two superfast-run I moved it back to him just few days ago. Today he said that he won't put it for sale until this problem is fixed - now I can tell him that it's not (completely) my fault of repair! I will get back to you, Martin, as I will most likely need new belts for this thing... :)

Meanwhile I have a nice Beocenter 9000 waiting for a new mute relay.... that's a real beauty!

Lift off the platter.

Losen the (5 or so) screws that hold the plastic frame and remove it.

Then lose, I think, 4 screws holding the turntable chassis.

That's interesting that it's a flaw. Still no wonder as this feels to be so cheap a set...

If you can find the info about the fix that would be great.

I still don't know how to get the turntable -part out of the main body - as mentioned on the first post. It's likely that the belt is slipping as the cassette deck belt was on the limit of being good and being loose. The BC looked like being stored on a garage as it was full of dust and the cassette deck was soooo..ooo dirty... I guess you have the belts for the cassette deck and turntable in stock?

It's a construction flaw, causing the electronics to accept twice the frequency of the motor circuit than normal. If the turntable belt is slipping, the motor will accellerate too fast and the electronics haven't got time to correct and happily accepts the double speed.

It happens in Beogram 2200,2202,2400,2402 too and I seem to remember that B&O introduced a fix at some point. I will see if I can find it. In the meantime you could check if the turntable belt slips easily on the motor pulley. If you rotate the subplatter by hand, the motor pulley should follow closely and not just skid along on the belt surface.

Hi all!

I have a Beocenter 2002 for a repair. Certainly not a true B&O except for the turntable and the aluminium slides but still quite good-looking center and I like the idea of a wide control-board.

The BC is working otherwise well except that there is a small trouble with the turntable. When I start playing a record -either 33 or 45 rpm- the turntable sometimes starts rotating at some considerably higher speed! It's much faster than 45 and it sounds like around 78 rpm - even the thing only has 33 and 45 rpm available! What could be causing this?

The BC was very dirty so I recon this could be caused by dirt in somewhere speed selector or speed regulator control? The cassette-player and the amplifier sections (left and right side) can be easily lifted off but the turntable is somehow differently fixed in place... There are three torx-screws on the front but there is certainly something else holding the turntable in place....
