The switch in the photo is in the correct position but the carriage is not home. It will activate the metal arm when it gets home.

Actually the tape is used widely in the BG8000/2. Also use to stick down the platter surround and the metal plate above the arm. I use two pack Epoxy on mine. The 8000 is quite an odd deck - lots of wonderful features and then awful materials used - the hinge for the lid is set in very cheap plastic which can explode into shards. Nothing like the build quality of the 4000 series. Also much more difficult to take apart. I hope you used a coin to turn the plastic lock on the black panel - every 8000 I have seen has this mangled as a screwdriver has been used!

I thought a follow up to anyone interested in the "set-down" problem on the 8000 I incurred might be in order. Being a total novice regarding repairs on this turntable I did not realize until Martin supplied the photo that there was a panel under the tonearm "home" compartment that need to be removed to get access to the-set down adjustment switch, despite the fact that there is a "big" plastic screw clearly visible. When I removed that panel I found that there had been a metal plate that was affixed to the underside of that panel with tape by B&O and the adhesive had detiorated and the metal part had fallen down below. I removed the piece and epoxyed it back to the underside of the panel. This solved the needle set-down problem I had experienced so there was no need to adjust the set-down switch after all. I have experienced other instances of tape used on this turntable failing with age and guess B&O just didn't expect these machines to last this long.

Beoworld to the rescue !

It's the one with the metal arm pointing towards the rear of the Beogram in this photo. The arms are to the left (covered in dust on this poor Beogram). the transformer module is to the right, photo is taken from above with the black metal cover removed from under the arms.

The plastic tab protruding from the left is on the carriage (which is not quite home in the photo). The tab will activate the switch's metal arm to indicate the home position (which is where the arms rest when the Beogram is not playing).

Due to the way the Beogram counts, the adjustment of this switch will set the point of lowering the arm.

He has the service manual - I would take a picture of the switch but my 8002 is in Eastbourne! Anyone else oblige!? The service manual is pretty unhelpful with regards to where the switch is!

Sorry I was not clearer in my original post, the diagram I am referring to is from the service manual. But I am still not able to identify the location of the switch the diagram refers to with its location on the turntable.

Sorry, but I am still unclear about the location of this switch for adjustment. I think my problem is I am unable to see where the diagram of that switch corresponds to the location on the turntable. I understand by "home" you mean the resting position for the tonearm when it is not in play. I guess I sort of need an Idiot's Guide explanation here.

Its a microswitch by the back right hand side, (looking from the front) near the arms when 'home' screwed to the base.

Hello All,

I have a query on how to do a set-down adjustment on the Beogram 8000. I received a pdf of the Beogram 8000 through the kindness of Peter McEvedy regarding that adjustment. On page 5-3 of the manual with the heading "SO Switch" it shows a diagram for that adjustment. I hate to sound dense but I am not sure where the diagram is referring to on the turntable. Can anyone clarify for me where I would look for that adjustment shown in the diagram? Any help would be appreciated. I can send a jpg of that manual page directly to anyone who might be of help.
