One short spring works with the large idler wheel and another somewhat longer spring sits hidden by the flywheel. I have tried shortening these two a couple of windings each which seems to improve matters a bit.

These drives were never known as good wind/rewind'ers.

Martin

'Vortex' tape mechanism

Hello All,

I have a question about this mech. If I'm correct it is the one used in the 8000 / 8002 / 8004 / 9000 and the 7000 series of music centres. I have cleaned and fitted new belts to a few of these nowe but have often found that fast forward either doesn't work at all, or is very slow towards the end of the cassette. Are there any other parts that can be replaced (a worn idler for example?) I have heard that oiling the mech well can help too. . . :)

Any suggestions welcome :-)

Adam
