Thanks Jaff. I guess that a lot of setup functions can only be accomplished on the MCP. I had already turned off the timer functions for all locations in the house. With the timer programs active, I still expect to get unexpected preset station changes and the system powering off inappropriately, as I can't change the BM5500 system time.

The hint about removing the battery to cancel the timer programs is interesting, but perhaps it will erase the preset radio frequency settings as well? I guess these presets can be tuned again and re-stored using my BL1000.

Anyway, thanks for getting back.

Unfortunately, I don't have a quick answer for that. However, based on my experience -the LH will pick up anything the MCP will transmit by using the "LEARN" function. So, in theory, it may well work. The problem is that your MCP is dead...

My MCP5500 has just failed, and I want to set the time on the system. The Logitech downloaded codes from their library seem to just emulate a BEO4 remote, not the MCP5500. I was hoping to find some way of setting the time or deleting the timer programmes on the Beomaster 5500, which I don't think I can with the Beolink 1000 I have.

The way we did it... I logged into his account -made the additions -confirmed operability -had him change his PWORD.

If you'd like... we can try what I did in the other post (same caveats apply)!

You CAN have as many logins as you desire. In my case, I have two active ones for two different rooms.

I'd suggest leaving your existing login/config intact, and setting up another one that we can both access... if it works as expected... buy another Logitech.

How Logitech updates their code database -I really have no idea.

ok that would be cool. i would imagine if you did it already once you'd have the configuration on some logitech account already, no? anyway, just let me know if you get around to checking it, thanks.

PS: assuming you did do it through a logitech account initially, it's possible that logitech has already updated its database based on what you submitted. I'm not sure how they work that.

I would consider it... Lots of ongoing front burner projects at present! My previous work was "proof of concept" -to-> delivering a usable, specific config to one user.

Pulling the code from the MCP is a very time intensive task, and something I had placed on the back burner.

I have an Airport Express connected to it, through which I stream music from my computer, and it's what I use the most. Tape 1 is taken by a tape deck and Aux is taken by CD (since the 5000 predated CD there is no separate CD input).

Well then could you please submit your info to Logitech? They are actually very good at updating their info with user submitted data. (I've done it before.)

You get what you pay for... I don't think that Logitechs are overpriced. Even so, I paid less than 1/2 street price w/ careful shopping -check Amazon, etc...

And that thread suggests two other things as well (correct me if I'm wrong):

1) the Beolink 1000 will not work withe the Beosystem 5000

2) the Beo Terminal doesn't support Tape 2 like I read elsewhere, which I absolutely need.

And by the way, if you have a working Logitech configuration for BeoSystem 5000, and you haven't done it already, it would be great if you submitted it to Logitech so they can add it to their database! (Maybe with that I'd consider getting another Logitech remote... Thanks...)

Edit: hmm... actually found Beomaster 5000, Beogram 5000, and BeoGram CD 50 in the logitech database! Did you add these? So I wonder if the cheaper Harmony 300 would work?

I have the same question, but for the Beosystem 5000 (Beomaster 5000 / Beocord 5000 / Beogram CD 50).

I still have the original Master Control Panel 5000 but it's just too big now days.

So does the this Beolink 1000 work with this 5000 system? Since I use Tape 2, it's very important that it supports that function (as I understand some of the original B&O remote devices didn't)

And if I did want to go with a universal remote, surely y'all can put away your purism and recommend ones that would work. As I understand it, as long as it goes up to 455khz it should work in theory, right?

Philips claims all of its universal remotes go up to 455khz, which should mean a simple one like this SRU4208 would work. Possibly even this cheapo one from CVS would work. Though it can't learn, I was told by Philips the B&O code is 0620. Among the other candidates I found supporting 455khz are Genius 600.

So I wonder, has anyone tried any universal remote that works?

PS: FWIW, for a long time I used a Palm TX with some software successfully but finally my Palm TX battery died so I'm looking for a replacement.

I bought one of those clone remotes a few months ago.

It didn't do a thing with any of my B&O kit and has since been replaced with a second hand Beolink 1000 from eBay.

A while back I sold an Beovision to someone. When I delivered it they asked if their existinf remote for their MX5000 would work. It was one of those BL1000 replacements you see on Ebay. It was horrible to say the lest, very light and plastic. Nothing like a B&O remote at all. For what a second hand BL1000 costs I would not even bother with the alternative.

A few do - they are sometimes on eBay - and the Philips Pronto does - but is not cheap. I would suggest getting a Beolink 1000 - can be used as a club at an Irish wedding and still turn the music on and off.
