I have a Beolab 1700 at the heart of a vintage B&O system in the study upstairs and I like it a lot.

They do crop up on ebay from time to time (maybe once every couple of months) and tend to go for between £10 and £30 depending on condition so that might be a viable option.

I paid £10 for mine and it is an absolute bargain for the money!

Don't hesitate to ask should you or the repairshop need a part.
Some of us are known to have the odd part lying around.

Hello Peter. Wow thank you so much for your help. No it's not sentimental value it's just that .... well it's a B & O!!! You are right I have the Beomaster 1700 radio here the amplifier is at the moment at AVA Services in Coulsdon (recommended by B & O) it only cost me £20.00 to have it sent there from here by courier they 'phoned me last week saying that in spite of all efforts they cannot find the part, and what did they want me to do about it. I don't mind whichever way - if one could be found in working order or if mine can be repaired. Only thing that worried me about getting a different amp was compatability. I have Sonab speakers floor standing with the black grill ..... excuse my lingo not very 'up' on these things facing upwards but do not know the wats etc so therefore have to stick to original amp if possible. So where would I find another amp .... just in case. Have sent a private message. Really appreciate your help. Jane

Ah! You have a Beolab 1700 amplifier! This was a variant of the Beomaster 1100 but was divided into two parts - a tuner - the Beomaster 1700 - and the amplifier - the Beolab 1700. I am sure Tim would be able to resurrect that for you. I'll have a word with him tonight. The only problem I can see is that the cost of getting it to him and the repair (he is ridiculously reasonable!) will rather outweigh the value of your amplifier. I dare say we can find you a working receiver for less than the repair to the Beolab 1700. Or is it of sentimental value?

Hello Peter I am based on the Isle of Wight. Not sure what you mean by the glass topped receiver - it has a rosewood type finish with black frontage. On speaking to the Company that has it they said that inside it's the righthand channel that is down and although they has one in stock and tried it and it worked for a short time but blew again is they has another one they could watch it carefully and then see what the problem is but because of it's age they cannot seem to locate one. Where are you based? I take it you mean the glass topped receiver with the caterpillar tracks? The electronics of this are pretty simple and I am sure can be fixed. The usual problem is that the mechanical clutches go so the buttons don't work. If near London, I am sure Tim Jarman can fix this for you.

Hello am new here and looking for help about my B& O Amplifier 1700.

Yes I know it's old but it has been so wonderful - unfortunately it has gone down on one channel - I have taken it to two places - in fact it is still at a company that mends B & O they put in a new part and it worked well and then went and blew again they say they can repair it if they could get another part for then could then see what was going wrong so far they cannot find one so cannot repair it. Has anyone some suggestions for me to get my system up and running again - don't really want to send it to a graveyard - thank you for you help. Jane
